Tea partiers demand low taxes on wealthy, everybody else disagrees
Jed Lewison

From the cross-tabs of CNN's newly released poll on fiscal policy, conducted August 5 to 7:

Which of these statements comes closest to your view:

• Taxes on wealthy people should be kept low because they invest their money in the private sector and that helps the economy and creates jobs

• Taxes on wealthy people should be kept high so the government can use their money for programs to help lower-income people

All:
Kept low: 33
Kept high: 62

Support tea party:
Kept low: 77
Kept high: 20

Neutral on tea party:
Kept low: 23
Kept high: 71

Oppose tea party:
Kept low: 15
Kept high: 80

2. Sure don't like the way they worded
the questions.

"Taxes on wealthy people should be kept low because they invest their money in the private sector and that helps the economy and creates jobs"

"Taxes on wealthy people should be kept high so the government can use their money for programs to help lower-income people"

First no one is saying to make the taxes on the rich "high" just closer to what the rest of us pay when payroll taxes are figured in. Second, it's the middle class (the ones they are robbing) that are the entepenours, the rich only take the small businesses that the entepenours create when they become competition and then the rich shut them down. Third, the safety net programs are now helping those that used to be middle-class, not just the lower-income people.

3. Yep, that does kind of stand out.
The poll couldn't have been worded with more bias if they'd said "Do you support Socialists stripping the fine members of the upper 1% of their hard earned and God given property and handing it out to filthy poor people?"

And they still got a huge amount of "Tax the bastards!". That's got to sting.
