Poll: Majority wants super committee to tax the rich
Source: Raw Story
By David Edwards

Republicans appointed to a congressional deficit panel will have to buck public opinion if they intend to block tax hikes on the rich.

A CNN poll (PDF) released Wednesday found that a majority of Americans want Congress to compromise by raising taxes on the rich and cutting government spending.

In all, 62 percent believed that "axes on wealthy people should be kept high so the government can use their money for programs to help lower-income people." Only 34 percent believed that taxes on the rich should be "kept low because they invest their money in the private sector and that helps the economy and creates jobs."

Sixty-three percent said they would like to see higher taxes on businesses and higher-income Americans, while 36 percent disagreed. Major cuts in spending and domestic programs should also be part of a compromise, according to 57 percent of those polled.

2. It doesn't fucking matter what the people want.
Ordinary people do not matter anymore. CEOs and hedge fund managers matter. The latter groups will have their way, even though this situation is unsustainable....I give America twelve more years, if that.

5. Would you rather give more or get less? Or would you rather it be someone else?
The only thing funnier than these polls, to me, are people who use them to support their position.

6. What the majority of the people want no longer matters. Democracy went out
Edited on Wed Aug-10-11 11:54 AM by RKP5637
of style a long time ago in the US. The banksters, wall street, the 2% cornered wealth and the MIC run this country. The majority of the people are the F in the way and their opinion does not count. The aforementioned will do what they damn well please as they own the US gov., as well as SCOTUS. So, the rest of us must STFU and get with the program. This is USA, Inc.

Any not seeing this really have their heads deep in the sand. The only thing that controls TPTB is money, money is the only thing that counts to them. Not the people, not the country, not the future. Many are also globally invested, they could care less about the masses. They will do well even if most of the country lives on the street.

That, is the reality of the new USA in the 21st century. Welcome to dystopia. And many Americans are so clueless, they have no F'en idea what is going on, lethargy is so great, and many are so proud of their ignorance and false patriotism, and lap up the propaganda, disinformation and lies.

11. To the 36% who want to cut Social Security, they should start with themselves.
They should take fewer benefits.
