Pay TV Industry Loses Record Number of Subscribers

The weak economy is hitting Americans where they spend a lot of their free time: at the TV set.

They're canceling or forgoing cable and satellite TV subscriptions in record numbers, according to an analysis by The Associated Press of the companies' quarterly earnings reports.

The U.S. subscription-TV industry first showed a small net loss of subscribers a year ago. This year, that trickle has turned into a stream. The chief cause appears to be persistently high unemployment and a housing market that has many people living with their parents, reducing the need for a separate cable bill.

2. Good. Maybe they'll treat their subscribers better.

Instead of just jacking the prices up every single year.

We just cut our bill too - I said it was because they keep raising the price, and capping the internet.

3. we cut some channels from our package
A couple years ago, like the HBO package. I just can't see paying for those channels just to watch bill mahr once a week.

6. This has less to do with the economy and more to do with
the availability of free Internet content and steaming services like Netfix.

4. Plus, too many channels (garbage) that appeal to too few viewers & too many infomercials.
Everywhere I turn I see Chuck Norris & Christie Brinkley, Cindy Crawford, now Fred Thompson hawking reverse mortgages (way to go, AAG! Your new spokesman's integrity has me convinced not to use your services!).

5. It also means CANCELLING FUCKING CABLEVISION after they raised the rates again
after the Fox bullshit earlier. My TV bill was

$97 fucking dollars a month

For Family cable with the cheapest digital package to get MSNBC and SyFy. Now, it's $49.00 for Internet only and I watch Netflix and TV on line.

Fuck the greedy bastards.

12. Their advertising rates are dependent on a count of viewers.
Their deficit won't necessarily be paid by Big Money when BM realizes not as many people are getting their message.

10. I wonder if they were tapping Democrat's phones and e-mails,
and then feeding the raw traffic to the GOP?

11. I cancelled cable over a year ago and never miss it.
It wasn't a matter of budget, however, it was just that I had a hundred channels of worthless crap! I could never find anything worth watching.
