Reposting: "Congressional Reform Act 2011" - from Dylan Ratigan's website
Edited on Wed Aug-10-11 05:00 PM by FirstLight
This was in the comments on Dylan's website and i thought it was worth sharing here. I didn't write it, but we are all pretty much at a 'mad as hell' moment, so yeah...

"Asking the person reading to copy and paste and post this on your wall. In three days, most people in The United States of America will have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed around.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. No Tenure / No Pension.
A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay
when they are out of office.

2. All Senate and House of Representatives members (past, present &
future) will participate in Social Security.
All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social
Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social
Security system, and all Congress men and women participate at the
same level as the American people. Funds collected may not be used
for any other purpose or programs.

3. Congress men and women can purchase their own retirement plan and will pay the same rates as all Americans do.

4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional
pay will be determined by the individual states they represent every
two years with the raises limited to the lower of CPI or 3%. with no
special adjustments.

5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates
in the same health care system as the states they represent and the
American people.

6. Congress will equally abide by all laws they impose on the
American people. No provisions for special treatment will be
allowed.

7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective
1/1/12.
The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen.
Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves.
Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s),
then go home and back to work.

;o) add to that Campaign Funding REFORM! "

1. Not to nick pits, but
Problem with 4&5 is that this is a federal position, not a state position. There is no "state health care plan" unless they are retitled as state employees. Same with pay. Congress is paid out of federal taxes, not state.

I love 6 given that Congress is exempt from Insider Trading regulations, yet they are the ones crafting the laws. This one has always bothered me.

I hope Dylan stays on his adrenaline rush after yesterday and keeps feeling the creativity. :applause:

3. K&R.....With an addition.
All members of Congress must locate their Congressional offices in the most economically challenged area in their district. Thus bringing attention to the local community while potentially improving it. It will also save the American Tax Payer $$$ as the area is likely to be cheaper, less extravagant and less expensive.
