5. Let's count next Wednesday |
|
I think we shot ourselves in the foot, nationally. It might be a wash, and a waste of resources. A distraction that other states benefited from to cut and slash and punish public employees. If this ends up a one seat gain after next Tuesday, we ought be looking inward. If this ends up merely a one seat pickup considering a guy that cheated on his wife who lost, and we gain one seat - what was the benefit? Other state elected officials will be emboldened now for draconian measures. We haven't gained a thing, but another loss in my opinion and after next Tuesday, it might be devastating nationally.

Obama told us elections have consequences. We lost a midterm and governorship. So we parlay that into massive resource spending for what?? To be distracted in a state we ultimately lost again in. Meanwhile other states under the cloak of darkness do even more and now are emboldened. This was sour grapes in my opinion and it backfired bad. This is not good. I am upset and disappointed.

8. I strongly disagree. They won't be emboldened if they know they face recalls. |

9. I am talking nationally |

This has implications, and if we lose even one seat next week it gets worse. It is highly likely that the net gain is one seat for all the resources, energy and time put in. It could end up a wash. We didn't like the results of the election and what they did so we tried and failed to change the election. This is setting a bad precedent and the ramifications are huge. Wisconsin was a distraction imo, and maybe it was purposeful, while other states took advantage of that distraction. You will know what I am saying later. I am thoroughly disappointed at this point with the outcome. I don't think it bodes well for anyone. At a minimum we are more divided in this country because of it. Obama told us, elections have consequences. Yep. He is right.

10. We wouldn't have been able to "undo"' it anytime soon anyway. |

Even after recalling the gov, the state house is solid red into 2013 at least.

11. So what was the point |
|
To feel good? And lose in the process? Maybe a net of zero offices after next Tuesday. Other states took cover for what they are doing while the spotlight and resources are focused on Wisconsin setting a precedent that may reverberate negatively. don't like the election results, so let's waste millions (unions are not limitless in funding) trying to change them. Obama said, elections have consequences, and now we opened up a whole new can of worms with recall elections. We probably learned from the Davis recall in California, but now we have parlayed that into being fools. A mere distraction while Rome burns.

15. So you're feeling pre-defeated about next Tuesday |
|
because things might end up even. Do you worry about getting fired next month because you might make a mistake two weeks from now?
And why do you say we lost? We gained seats, for fuck's sake!

16. Are you following this in Wisconsin? |
|
It may be a zero net seat pickup after next week.......
Following at all?
Meanwhile, what has other states done? Do you care? No spotlight, all the money and resources in a losing battle tied up. And we set a horrible precedent in my opinion. Don't like election results even though terms are short, so we set out to lose?? Good grief. This is beyond comprehension to me.

12. You've certainly loaded a lot of despair into a conditional |

Going into yesterday's elections in Wisconsin, there had been a grand total of 13 successful recalls of state elected officials. There have now been 15, and the recalls were in heavily Republican areas of Wisconsin. Yes, three victories would have been nice (and damn if one of those losses wasn't razor thin), but two is nothing to sneeze at.
As for the two recall elections next Tuesday, is there any indication that the Democrats subject to this election are in any particular trouble? I'm unfamiliar with their areas, but if they are from districts that are as heavily Democratic as the six Republican areas contested yesterday were Republican, I suspect both Democrats will survive their recall elections.
Go be devastated if you want; the rest of us will keep working at it. Thanks for your concern.

20. Wrong. Kapanke's district was solidly red. |
|
Has been since the first election after the last redistricting - been red for 7 years, with Kapanke even winning re-election in 2008, the year of the Obama wave.
There is absolutely no evidence that this was a blue seat.
