Just started "unfriending" people on face book who post right wing bullshit.
I just can't take it anymore all of their lies and propaganda. Some of these people are poor and need affordable healthcare, but NO!

Here's the straw that broke the camels back for me:

I do not like this Uncle Sam, I do not like his health care scam.
I do not like these dirty crooks, or how they lie and cook the books.
I do not like when Congress steals, I do not like their secret deals.
I do not like ex-speaker Nan, I do not like this 'YES WE CAN'.
I do not like this spending spree, I'm smart, I know that nothing's free.
I do not like their smug replies, when I complain about their lies.
I do not like this kind of hope. I do not like it. nope, nope, nope!

It was from a friend from high school who stopped her education there...BYE BYE!

2. "I know that nothing's free"
Yet strangely enough, the concept of paying for the things we bought under the last president never seems to occur to them. Those two shiny wars? Yes, they're all dingy and stained, and nobody likes them anymore. They're simply a vehicle for more meaningless death and destruction, just like the dirty fucking hippies said they would be, but we don't want to pay for them anymore. But we're not going to end them, either.

Can this nitwit explain how she knows that nothing is free?

3. If they're a Republican, they might as well be saying . . .
I do not like this Uncle Sam, or this crappy song "This Land is Your Land".
I do not like these liberals more, or how they want to help the poor.
I do not like this spending spree, except for stuff that pleases me.
War kicks ass and tax cuts rule; Just look at all these JOBS, you fools!!
I also love the CEOs, and how they fire loads and loads.
I hate it when these liberals bitch; We musn't EVER hurt the rich!
Short term pain is tragic, true; but better jobs don't come and find you!
"Redistribution"'s a load of crap; pull yourselves up by your bootstraps!
Even though not one thing's changed, Faux tells me Taxocrats are to blame!
I do not like to smirk and lie, I simply can't stand this black guy!

4. I'm with you. I've done the same thing. Wasting time reading this tripe
on social media sites is time out of my life I can spend with positive and progressive things.

6. It's better to counter their ignorance (even if futile) ...
... since other people may see those comments. It's better to have both sides of the argument presented.

While I am extremely far left, my best friend is somewhat right-wing. I never let his comments go without refutation. I know that I'm not going to change his mind, but others viewing those comments might be swayed one way or another.

7. Not me, I never remove them..
Although I have often been removed by them after my responses.

There is nothing that pisses off an irrational conservative teabagger like a well written, and logical response to the tripe they post backed up with statistics and facts.

Drives them absolutely insane, and usually gets one or 2 responses attempting to regain face, followed by removing me from their friends list.

*shrug*.

9. The upside is it keeps your blood pressure in check.
But the downside is you lose an avenue to convert (assuming it was ever there). For instance, you could have responded that the Bush tax cuts aren't free.

12. That reflects poorly on you.
No one ever changed another person's mind by walking away or calling them an idiot. I have a number of friend with whom I disagree vehemently about politics. We can and do discuss these things without damaging our friendship or losing respect for each other.

14. Some of my friends on Facebook
are Republicans/Conservative also.

Even some family members.

I've sometimes given my opinion on a couple of things, but haven't gotten into a discussion or argument. I don't even get into it with friends of friends (people I don't know but who post on my friends' walls).

Like you said, arguing over something very rarely (if ever) changes someone else's mind...

18. Give the OP a break
You don't have to change every person's mind, and many of the most rightward baggers know that if they tangle you up in argument, you're not engaging in more prodctive conversation and activity elsewhere.

Some people just need to be turned away from, and the sooner the better.

19. People sometimes take themselves too seriously.
The OP was talking about friends. I can't imagine breaking a friendship over ideology - people can and should be able to disagree without losing respect for each other.

20. I'm not talking about disagreeing with someone.
I can not respect anyone who repeats the right wing propaganda machine, spreading the lies is just as bad as telling them in the first place. And if I can't respect you...you are not my friend.

24. I see a big part of your problem
The definition of a lie is the making of a statement, known to be false, with the intent to deceive. That is very different than interpreting the same set of facts with a different moral compass and reaching a different conclusion. In my experience, it's rare that the facts and the reasonable interpretation of the facts surrounding a disagreement are so cut and dry that only one conclusion can be drawn and that asserting anything else is clearly a lie. Progressives and conservatives have very different priorities and opinions on what the proper role of government should be and whether you choose to admit it or not, there is merit in both viewpoints. This frequently leads to irreconcilable differences and no agreement on what should be done, but I still try to respect the other person and avoid hateful rhetoric. At the end of the day, I believe my conservative friends are acting in good faith and I respect them for that regardless of how strongly I disagree with them. You would be well served to do the same.

23. No, it's your right.
FB is supposed to be fun and sociable. If you have someone who keeps posting objectionable stuff, I say bag 'em. It's just like walking away from some right-wing blowhard at a party. It's the most natural thing in the world. I'd do it.

Man, you're nice.

I have unfriended friends over there for a long time for doing that rightwing crap.
One asshole told me that he had met George Bush and shook his hand.
He said that after he said that he voted for him -- TWICE!!

I set a new record for unfriending that dickhead.
About 2 nanoseconds after I read his comment.

25. Yeah, join the club.
In fact, I really don't have any conservative friends anymore. I just find that I have NOTHNG in common with a conservative, and most of them don't feel that I have the right to exist as a gay man, so why in the fuck should I have to look at any of their bullshit on facebook? They can cram that right wing shite up their b-u-t-t-s!

26. I've only unfriended one person
and that was for non-political reasons. He was relentlessly negative. I just figured that I didn't need to subject myself to it, so I can understand your choice.

I have very close friends here in TN who are Reps, but they are usually sane about it. Every now and then it gets a little heated, but for the most part we agree to disagree.

My fellas ex posted that yesterday. I was surprised, because she's not a Republican. She's just fed up with the government in general.
