"Why Illinois Can't Afford its Poor Dead"

In the past, the state has reserved about $13 million to help pay for an estimated 12,000 funerals for individuals who relied on public aid. Participating funeral homes were alloted $1,100 for funerals and $552 for the burial.

The 2011 budget, however, accounts for just $1.9 million.

The Illinois Department of Human Services letter said it can only guarantee payments for pauper funerals through August 15.

1. Well then, there's the opening for a new wafer product
part of a colorful line-up of products by Soylent Companies.

Soylent, where our most important ingredient is our people.

5. But wouldn't dead poor old people make it 'adult'erated?
People are fussy about what the feed to their cats. Who would feed a cat chow that's made of poor nutrients?

7. Good point. Not to mention all the meds in them. But our waters are full of meds (and Japanese

radiation), so I guess that's a moot point.

You're right. People ARE fussy about what they put in their cats' mouths, even if they shove anything into their own (I'm still reeling over the deep fried butter sticks in Iowa; Jeebus H. Key-Riced).

If Monsanto wasn't so thuggy, the bodies could be used as fertilizer. There's always fish food, too. I'm sure the tuna don't have their bellies 100% full of industrial waste mercury. There's gotta be some room in there for homosap meat.

3. Who the fuck ARE these people?
Are they even human at all? I guess they could just leave poor dead people on the side of the road or dump them in a ditch. I'm beginning to think either conservatives are from another planet or I am.

4. $1652 sounds like a lot for a cardboard box and a cremation?

8. Cremations are cheaper than your standard burial, but still not cheap. However, I don't recall
paying quite that much for my parents, and they had nice wooden containers.

Not sure what the deal is here.

6. Illinois has been insolvent for years
The shitheads we elect have spent and spent and refused to raise taxes or cut services. We just had a 66% income tax increase. There is no money and people are going to stop lending it to us soon.

Illinois is fucked.

That is why we cannot bury our dead.

9. Dying is expensive in this country indeed, as we discovered
when my father-in-law died.
