Outfoxed By Democratic Governor O’Malley, “Liberal” Van Susteren Leaps To Defend Republicans
Reported by Ellen - August 12, 2011 - Comments

http://www.newshounds.us/2011/08/12/outfoxed_by_democratic_governor_omalley_liberal_van_susteren_leaps_to_defend_republicans.php

“Liberal” Greta Van Susteren obviously got more than she bargained – or was prepared for – during an interview with Maryland’s Democratic governor, Martin O’Malley Wednesday night (8/10/11). O’Malley was there to discuss how his state's sound financial footing might be threatened by the federal government's credit downgrade. But when O’Malley seized the framing of the conversation and insisted on making calm, civil but pointed criticisms of Republicans and their policies, Van Susteren couldn’t handle it. I think it’s crucial that Democrats who go on Fox seize control of the agenda just this way. For that, O’Malley is our latest Top Dog.

O’Malley signaled right at the start he was not going to be a Tea Party kind of governor when he announced that his state’s AAA rating was due to both “cuts and revenue.” Noting that fiscal responsibility hasn’t been easy, he added that he’s done “unpopular things like raising the sales tax by a penny.” But, he continued, “for that, we have a very good quality of life, an innovation economy that’s well poised to create jobs.”

Van Susteren didn’t show a moment’s interest in how O’Malley or Maryland was managing. Instead, she moved on to prompt him to criticize the federal government, by pointing out that Maryland’s rating was now in jeopardy because of S&P’s downgrade of the U.S.

But if she thought O’Malley was going to use the opportunity to attack Obama or Congress in general, she was wrong. He blamed “the dysfunction with the extremists in the Republican party in Congress.”

BTW, what makes people think they look better when their faces are stretched into bizarre, unnatural poses with plastic surgery? Replacing wrinkles and sags with a freakish frozen expression is hardly an improvement, imo.

57. O'Malley is a REAL Dem.
There is NO way he would ever run against a popular incumbent Dem - and Obama is still that whatever you personally may believe -because he realizes exactly what that would lead to.

94. They don't care
They didn't care in Nov 2010 and if dear god we lose in 2012 they will blame everyone else except themselves. They can't bring themselves to support the President no matter what, he takes out Osama Bin Laden they complain because OBL wasn't givin a trial. He takes out the pirates, they complain that he should have given the pirates a choice to surrender. On it goes....

This isn't just about them not liking what he has or hasn't done, they want the Democratic president to fail.....and if they can help him fail then they will pat themselves on the back while a Bachman or Perry turn this country into a Taliban Christian country, where liberals, gays, independent women, non-believiers, non-Christians (I am sure I missed other groups), they will make sure we are not allowed to have jobs, then they will find that because we are unemployable we will be deemed vermin.....and in their eyes what happens to vermin? Well history tells us what happens..

I am not going to sit back quietly while people pretend to be liberal, progressive Democrats and talk about destroying a Democratic President.

55. Mine too and I am also proud!
I still love the story about when David Simon, co-creator of "The Wire," approached the-then Mayor of Baltimore, who happened to be O'Malley, about not pulling any punches over his bleak depiction of aspects of the city in that TV series. O'Malley welcomed it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wire#Conception

As I recall, O'Malley was also a strong supporter of Howard Dean's candidacy for President in 2004 and was strongly supported by DFA in his bid for the Governorship.

He's a great campaigner as well.

I really like his chances for a shot at the Presidency in 2016.

He has been mentioned to run in 2016, and I hope he does.

One thing that has really got me excited is that I read there was going to be a Senate hearing on the feasibly of starting a single-payer health plan in Maryland. I have not heard the outcome, but I would totally love it if Maryland progresses in this direction.

91. Ten years of tax cuts didn't work
but two years of stimulus which include tax cuts; was continuously deemed failure right from the start and Dems let the re pugs get away with saying that.
While the glaring fact that the ten year tax breaks are a huge failure, isn't mentioned by the Dem's, unbelievable. They should have done so in the 2010 election, hope they wise up for 2012. Every time re pugs open their mouth about stimulus, they should ask, hows those tax breaks for ten years, working out for jobs?
You want more, what's the definition of insanity again. Republican physical policy, the solution to everything tax cuts.

I've lived here all my live (61 years) and he's the best we've ever had. He would make an excellent president someday.

And... he's a pretty good musician. Gotta love that. The Gov's band, O'Malley's March:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jnotc5xepDY

He's a bright guy, with good effective policies, and he's no chicken. All next week we're having a back-to-school sales tax holiday on any items under $100. His emails tell us about job openings and similar info that is actually useful to know about.

43. Hey, thanks for introducing me to O'Malley and O'Malley's March
This was an awesome video. Congrats on having such an awesome governor. We've got a good one here in Oregon, a strong and effective Dem, and like O'Malley he's no chicken, but sadly doesn't have his own band. Will be watching more of O'Malley's March in days to come, and I'm thinking he'd make a great presidential prospect in 2016. As for the sales tax holiday--we don't have that in OR 'cause we don't have a sales tax. One of the things I love about living here!

Cheers!

39. OMG!
Since WHEN has journalism become "interrupt your guest repeatedly with snarky comments"?! I swore I would never watch this harridan again, but I wanted to hear Governor O'Malley speak.

I wonder how many other listeners found it difficult to hear him over Greta's rude interjections. I suspect this 'style' is ubiquitous on FOX...

As for Great: What a sellout. She must get a $1,000 bonus for every right-wing lie she repeats. Only that would explain the idiocies she so eagerly spouts.

Greta wasn't able to filibuster him and therefore...it was not much of a discussion, according to the FOX pundit.

51. Compare and contrast Greta's interview with another governor- Sara Palin.
There were NO interruptions and Greta threw her softball after softball question.

Greta: The media was so mean and unfair to you Governor Plain. How does that make you feel?

I've never seen such a thorough ass-kissing.

60. This is also to his credit: During an appearance on a roundtable
discussion on MSNBC's Morning Joe a few months ago, he absolutely refused to join in on the bashing of public workers and their "greed" in "destroying" states, especially teachers. O'Malley calmly and reasonably gave them the business, explaining how he'd talked to and negotiated with them in a civil, respectful manner, and was able to come to a mutually beneficial agreement without the rancor and division and combativeness of many other states (hello, Mr. Walker and Mr. Christie).

He explained what a difficult job teachers and public safety workers have, that many were doing their best under not-so-great conditions. He further patiently explained that you cannot demand accountability for things over which the teacher has no control, and that you cannot demand quality and excellence at the same time as you are bashing, trashing, demonizing, disrespecting and scapegoating the profession and NOT treating it like what it is, a PROFESSION, and at the same time as you are taking away what little salary and benefits they have left and and what little conditions make the jobs bearable. He also even more patiently explained that you cannot ask public safety workers to risk their lives and safety every day on the job, while bashing and scapegoating them and trying to take away what little they receive.

He caused a real stir, because he wouldn't give in to their talking points and he kept putting the blame right where it belonged, on Wall Street and corporations and government kowtowing to them. I sure wish he were my governor!

63. When dems go on criminal Murdoch's network, they just give it credibility
Edited on Sat Aug-13-11 11:35 AM by Jim_Shorts
It worked out for O'Mally but 99% of the time they edit the interview to their liking, or do a scroll at the bottom like "ALWAYS CONTROVERSIAL" or do a 4 loudmouths on one.

Why do dems want to talk to an audience of repubs anyway?

If liberals boycotted Foxhole news and it was inhabited only by repukes, it would look like what it really is "of, by and for the republican party"

Sometimes I think politics is just the Hollywood for ugly people, how else can you explain people going on that distortion of any real facts network.

100. I still find it painful to watch... Van Susteren is so obnoxious.
It just infuriates me no end how her mic is louder, etc., and she interrupts... says he's lying...

I guess I have too weak a stomach!

Anyway, I am happy to learn of Governor O'Malley. WOW, is he patient!

God, can you believe how she ended that with, "Not much of a discussion... more of speech... heard it all before..." Aaargh!!! She's the one who did all the yammering, and cut off any kind of discussion.
