PHOTO of the DAY (JAPAN) Dial up warning
Edited on Sat Aug-13-11 05:35 PM by AsahinaKimi

Goldfish swim in a spherical water tank in an art aquarium exhibition in Tokyo.

Bonus photos

A meteor from the Perseid shower is seen in the sky above a lone pine tree in the Iwate Prefecture city of Rikuzentakata at 3:17 a.m. on Aug. 13, 2011. The pine tree miraculously survived the tsunami that devastated the city five months earlier. The Perseid meteor shower, which is visible around the Obon period each year, reached its peak on Aug. 13. Viewing conditions were poor this year due to a full moon on Aug. 14, but several meteors could be seen per hour in the sky above the tree. (Mainichi)

Colored ribbons dance in the wind over a paddy field in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture, on Aug. 11, 2011. The ribbons are part of a project by artist Akira Hosokawa to hang 1,000 ribbons in paddy fields of the tsunami-devastated city and "bring color to a world of gray." Written on the ribbons are messages of hope from locals. The project will run through Aug. 17, with a candlelight vigil scheduled to take place on Aug. 15. (Mainichi)

A boy holds a sparkler at a temple in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture, as a fireworks display is held in the city on Aug. 11, 2011, five months after the Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeastern Japan. The display was part of a fireworks event titled "Light Up Nippon" that was staged in 10 cities in Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, which were hit hardest by the disaster. Some 20,000 fireworks were used in the event, which was planned partly by young people in Tokyo. (Mainichi)

People light candles at a memorial site below Osutaka Ridge in Ueno, Gunma Prefecture, the site of a Japan Airlines jumbo jet crash in 1985 that claimed the lives of 520 people, on the 26th anniversary of the crash on Aug. 12. A total of 250 people including 157 bereaved relatives of the victims and Japan Airlines officials took part in a memorial event at the site, where 520 candles were lit for the victims. At 6:56 p.m., the time the plane went down, participants observed a moment of silence for those killed in the crash. (Mainichi)

4. Yes!
It is lovely. I especially like the boy below that photo best, I think, because of the expression on his face.

16. Yes..
I would have thought the last photo too, would have caught some comment. I have never seen a dog carried quite that way.

walking the dog.

17. I'll have to try the strawberry too, but I know I'd have to get
the chocolate for my wife.

We have one Japanese grocery in town. It's the only place to get Oolong and Sencha tea in this area.

They also carry a Korean dish, Kimche. It is the nectar of the gods.

32. The Kimchi they sell is made locally. It is so good. We have
a large Asian community because of the university and a nearby Toyota plant.

I lived in East Africa. There I developed a taste for fiery hot foods. I used to eat food so hot I'd lose fine motor control. I loved it.

41. If you taste "soap" you know you have taken in too much. This applies to
The fresh peppers. Sauces and powders do not have that soapy warning.

I'm a foodie, I love foods from all over the world.

Look for Chipotle powder, it is a fine addition to many dishes. It is roasted Jalapeño peppers. It add a nice smoky flavor to foods.

A far different type of "feel" about these, compared to the Bachmann's stuffing footlong corn dogs down their throats.

23. Thank you. We are seeing more and more of dogs being carried that
way lately. Little dogs have a hard time keeping up if you walk fast or far and I actually saw one in a carrier in a restaurant the other day.
