15. There are benefits. Donate if you can afford it. |
|
And if you have a little extra, you can donate a star to someone who can't afford it right now. Heck, that's why I try to donate every quarter. I've gotten the benefit of conversing with these people for 10 yrs. It's worth it!

17. It helps pay for the site. Unless you want to start your own |
|
and pay for it. It costs money to run a site this size. It's probably a nice thing to do if you can afford it, to donate to the upkeep of a site you are using.

19. Contributing a small share to a service that is important to you (even though sometimes |
|
you may get exasperated and certainly will not always agree with what gets said.)
After many years and many changes, I still find DU to be an important resource for finding out what's happening and what is the mood of a part of the people that I am interested in and care about.
I look at a lot of different sites every day, and DU remains one of my most useful checkpoints.

Plus the "star" allows you to post in certain forums you wouldn't be able to if you're not a donor.

30. No star = 1 rec/unrec per OP. Star = Unlimited recs/unrecs per OP. |
|
That alone is worth it to me.
Of course you have to be a Level 1 Contributor, but hey; it's worth it.

I think the scars are permanent.
Can't go wrong with the unlimited unrecs though.

36. Well like I said you have to be a Level 1 Contributor. I had to finance my last donation for 3 yrs. |
|
And, Skinner wanted 30% CASH down.
I had to borrow it from my parents who had to take out a THIRD mortgage on their home to get that much cash.
It's been worth it though...

So I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. Slowly, per the agreement.
