It's much better than just 17-16 in WI with a swing republican |
|
Not only is it 17-16 with a moderate/swing/maverick republican but these republicans recalled were in the reddest of the red districts (other than Kapanke). They survived 2008.
The ones who got voted in in 2010 are a lot more vulnerable. Many of them are in purple or blue districts. They're terrified of getting recalled and aren't going to stand by Walker on anything else other than bipartisan legislation.

Problem #1: Redistricting.
Unless the redistricting bill is successfully challenged in the court system, there's no such thing as an unsafe republican seat in any upcoming election for the next 10 years. If you're a R in WI, your seat is safe. And the two districts the R's lost in the recalls? Yeah, check out the redistricing. Those will hard as all get-out to old onto with the new borders.
There's a reason that while Walker's TALKING bipartisanship now, the fact is that no one on the D side knows anyone he's actually contacted to start establishing a rapport.
Let's hope the redistricting is challengeable. Or let's hope a lot of D's move in the next couple years to render Walker's maps obsolete.

2. Walker himself can be recalled next winter. |

And when school starts again, people will be much more focused on the situation of teachers.
