U of Washington Study Concretely Links Tea Party Members With Authoritarianism, Racism, Homophobia
This study is a year old ~ my apologies if this has already been posted.

University of Washington Study Concretely Links Tea Party Members With Authoritarianism, Racism, Homophobia

The University of Washington Institute For The Study Of Ethnicity, Race & Sexuality (WISER) recently published its 2010 "Multi-state Survey on Race & Politics". According to WISER, the study, "... examines what Americans think about the issues of race, public policy, national politics, and President Obama, one year after the inauguration of the first African American president." In this study, Tea Party adherents were found to be the most dismissive of racial and sexual oppression, and the most accepting of government intrusion into the private lives of citizens, in the areas of sexuality, religion, race and politics.

Some of the most shocking statistics are as follows:

1. Only one third of Tea Party adherents believe that the government should not engage in a) warantless wiretapping and b) racial and religious profiling. Skeptics of the Tea Party are against these practices about 75% of the time, as are 53-57% of those who consider themselves "middle of the road."

~snip~

3. 72% of Tea Partiers believe that slavery and centuries of government oppression and discrimination that ended, on paper, not 50 years ago, do not constitute significant barriers to the upward mobility of blacks, compared to only 28% of skeptics, and 55% of "moderates." 88% of the Tea Party also believes that the injustices faced by blacks are the same as the injustices faced by early European immigrants.

4. Concurrent with the above statistics, 73% of Tea Partiers believe that economic hardships faced by blacks are due purely to their own laziness.

5. By and large, Tea Partiers are much more likely to think of blacks and Hispanics as lazy, untrustworthy and stupid, and Asians and whites as hard-working, honest and intelligent.

~snip~

In response to claims that the study conflates conservative policies with racial resentment, the authors of the study said this: "So, in this case, if support for the Tea Party is truly a proxy for conservatism, the relationship between racial resentment and support for the Tea Party should evaporate once we control for conservatism. Otherwise, there's something else going on with support for the Tea Party; it's not just conservatism. To make things a little easier, we combined all of the items (questions) that comprise racial resentment, making them into a scale. As the figure shows, even as we account for conservatism and partisanship, support for the Tea Party remains a valid predictor of racial resentment. We're not saying that ideology isn't important, because it is: as people become more conservative, it increases by 23 percent the chance that they're racially resentful."

I'm sure many remember their disruptive appearances at Town Hall Meetings - !!

Koch Bros obviously put these people out there to cause disruptions --

and to move the political arena to more aggressive and violent behavior!!

Violence is the only way the RW can rise --
