Medical Personnel - a Question |
|
Why are they giving a man with stomach pains a CAT scan? Perhaps I'm not up to date on everything, but I thought they did that for head wounds.

I'm on the verge of hysterical worrying about him. He went to ER this morning, and ended up in the trauma unit.
It's my father. He is such a hale and hearty man, I can't even imagine what has gotten him so low.

I can't even get there, yet, though I did call the hospital. He's sitting up, the nurse told me.

Good thoughts are appreciated. I feel so helpless, but it's nice that I can at least have people in his corner.

CT scans show a three-dimensional study of the various organs. It can be done with and without contrast to show various and sundry malformations, bleeds, obstruction, perforation. One was done on my son that showed his appendicitis. It is the first line of treatment...followed by an EGD and colonoscopy and more complicated studies.

I'm just worried about my father. That gives me some comfort that it's normal.

I'm pretty removed from the medical field, but it helps to have folks like you explain it. Thank you for caring, Nadin. It's much appreciated.
