It will be VERY interesting to see how the insurance companies handle the quake damage in DC |
|
I'll bet lots of homeowners don't have an earthquake rider in their insurance policies. So Cal residents go through hell after each quake, even with riders.
Wonder if our reps will get platinum treatment, without riders?

2. I've paid an extra $75 for years to cover my home against |

earthquake damage. The odds are, I'll never make a claim, but it's good to know it's there.
As far as I know, there is no such thing as homeowner's insurance that covers every little thing that can happen to your house. My policy covers wind damage, fire damage, certain kinds of water damage, etc. It'll pay to remove a fallen tree from off my roof, but not from out of my yard. I take it out every year when I renew to make sure I'm covered against reasonably expectable hazards.
It's possible some policies cover more hazards (one company has an ad suggesting they'll insure your house against damage from wild animals!) But read your policy - if the hazard isn't mentioned, you're not covered!

4. The same will hold true if they get hit with Irene. |
|
I despise insurance companies. I pay a fortune for hurricane policies (wind and flood) and if Katrina is any example I'll have trouble collecting if I get hit. In Mississippi after Katrina, the insurance companies were fighting tooth and nail not to cover their customers. Flood companies said it was all wind damage, wind companies said it was water. Many homeowners had to sue and if they won, got ten cents on the dollar as settlements.
