The Evangelicals Engaged In Spiritual Warfare
Source: NPR

An emerging Christian movement that seeks to take dominion over politics, business and culture in preparation for the end times and the return of Jesus, is becoming more of a presence in American politics. The leaders are considered apostles and prophets, gifted by God for this role.

The international "apostolic and prophetic" movement has been dubbed by its leading American architect, C. Peter Wagner, as the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). Although the movement is larger than the network organized by Wagner — and not all members describe themselves as part of Wagner's NAR — the so-called apostles and prophets of the movement have identifiable ideology that separates them from other evangelicals.

Two ministries in the movement planned and orchestrated Texas Gov. Rick Perry's recent prayer rally, where apostles and prophets from around the nation spoke or appeared onstage. The event was patterned after The Call, held at locations around the globe and led by Lou Engle, who has served in the Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders of the NAR. Other NAR apostles endorsed Perry's event, including two who lead a 50-state "prayer warrior" network. Thomas Muthee, the Kenyan pastor who anointed Sarah Palin at the Wasilla Assembly of God Church in 2005, while praying for Jesus to protect her from the spirit of witchcraft, is also part of this movement.

On Wednesday's Fresh Air, Rachel Tabachnick, who researches the political impact of the religious right, joins Terry Gross for a discussion about the growing movement and its influence and connections in the political world.

1. Very dangerous people
"The leaders are considered apostles and prophets, gifted by God for this role."

Any time that you believe or convince enough other people that you speak for god, atrocities follow. History has shown us that.

5. Yes... these people are FAR more dangerous ...
than the "Second Coming." Do these people believe they have influence over God to persuade him to "come again" faster????? I think NOT. That is part of the crux of their collective insanity. The Bible says... Ye know not the time or the place; I will come as a thief in the night. This also part of the seized-up mind of the conservative.

13. Dominionists are dangerous and scary.
The fact that they consider themselves apostles and prophets - on the same plane as Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, adds major ego-maniacism to the factor, we must stop them at all costs!!!

11. Sometimes it took a century or two of bloody warfare, though.

9. There was a thread a few days ago with a link to a video of Jack Cafferty
& Wolf Blitzer saying that they had never heard of dominionists.

10. Was listening to this early on Fresh Air
Their agenda to take over the 7 mountains business, government, media, arts and entertainment, education, the family and religion. The arrogance and total lack of christian principals are startling. They believe God lost control over the earth. Now through a vision of 3 men they're going to take it back. Take these people seriously.

I agree that it can be uncomfortable to watch Lou Engle screaming from a stage, but it is even more uncomfortable to see him in a leadership role with other religious right leaders and members of Congress, as he was at the Family Research Council’s “prayercast” asking God to defeat health care reform. Engle, who declares that “the church’s vocation is to rule history with God,” introduced Michele Bachmann at that event.

14. These people are incredibly dangerous and psychotic to boot.
Yet if insanity is cloaked in "religion" it goes unchallanged. America's very own Nazis.

16. it's only NOW emerging BUT they have been growing in # since the 1980s
talk2action.com rightwingwatch.com they are using a "7 mountain Strategy", which is a corrupt form of a Roman tactic: take over the 7 areas in society. The government, education, science, entertainment, the media, the courts........& maybe the 7th is religion-only theirs is allowed.
