Charge: Lakeville dad cites financial collapse for abandoning son, 11
"...On the morning of July 18, the boy arrived at a neighbor's home and was crying. He gave his neighbor a letter and an unopened envelope. The letter was addressed to the boy and explained:

"If this paper is wet it's because I am crying so bad. You know your dad loves you more than anything. This economy got (illegible) there are no jobs for architects so I have to go because the sherriff will take the house July 27th. There will be no more me ... Some good news is your mother is still alive. Though I do not think it is for the best. Give these letters to . Do not open them. I hope they get to give you a chance. There are many great years ahead for you. No so for me."

The letter also directed the boy to take his PlayStation to the neighbor's home. The other letters he left asked the neighbor and her husband to take care of his son..."

1. Poor boy is effectively an orphan--two parents alive, both abandoning him.
Sad stuff.

7. Well, it doesn't say where the mother is, or why she didn't have custody.
It didn't say she abandoned him. Maybe the dad didn't call her, or maybe she has an alcohol problem. Dunno.

10. Mom was given visitation rights, but never exercised them.
Sounds like she just didn't give a damn.

6. Sounds like he was seriously depressed. Friends can't help with that much.
With men, so much of their worth is caught up with money and houses and things and being a provider. If they lose that, some feel they have nothing to live for.

Probably someone could've taken him in, but he doesn't sound like the kind of person who could accept that sort of arrangement.

Just glad he didn't kill the boy or something drastic like that.

I wonder where the mother was/is?

8. Wow. Quite a story. Almost reads like something out of the
Great Depression.

Wonder if Warren Buffett knew about BofA's foreclosure here before he sank $5 billion into BofA?
