10. The potential for flooding in the eastern counties was worrisome.
I read that New Bern had some emergency evacuations early this morning.

11. It is where rivers converge before going into the sound.
That is why I suspect my waterfront lot there is flooded. It has a 40 ft offset and homes there have to be built 11 ft in the air (at Fairfield Harbor).

I hear a lot of flooding off the Neuse and the Trent. My property there is on Northwest Creek. I hope to have more information later. Sorry I don't have further details at the moment.

It's windy and it rained some this morning. There was some thunder and rain last night. The wind is pretty stiff and the gusts are pretty high for as far away as I am from Irene. So far, so good.

Down in Richmond County, it thundered a couple of times last night. It was literally a couple of times. At that time, there was barely any rain either. We did get some rain this morning though.

6. I'm 200 miles inland from where the storm brushed the NC coast - nothing much.
Gusts of wind, a little rain (not as much as we need). The storm is fast-moving, which is good news for the eastern part of the state. Slow moving hurricanes cause terrible flooding inland.

News reports say that the southern beaches are reopening to the public now. The storm is moving past North Carolina.

VERY gusty wind...not too much rain, just steady and light for now. They just issued a tornado warning for Norfolk, Chesapeake, and VA Beach. :scared:

66. Hey!!!
I was in the middle of replying to you yesterday when the power went out! It's back on already - hopefully, it will stay on.

There was a fair amount of damage to the area, although not to the house where I'm staying. There is a tree on our home in Barhamsville, though it's more "leaning" on it - it didn't crash through.

Sadly, some were killed on the Peninsula - one was an 11 year old boy who was taking a nap with his mother, when a tree came through the ceiling. Heartbreaking.

44. VA Beach here
Lot of rain and wind, but not too bad at the moment. Expect the worst to hit us around 6PM. Some minor limbs down in our neighborhood, but we obviously still have power. It seemed to weaken a bit, so it's not as bad as it could have been, but we still have to get through the worst part and then deal with the flooding. Flooding and storm surge will be the main concern.

as they bend with the wind. Those pine trees are so majestic, tall and strong and then you get wind and you start thinking, threatening, too tall to fall and weak.

Hope all is well with you up in Chapel Hill?!

Should be over soon.

58. Chapel Hill here. No power loss at home. Trees blowing like crazy
at 25-35 mph. I can just imagine what it must be like in areas with trees and hurricane force winds.

I was down at the University Mall/Harris Teeter (grocery store) around noon and the power
was out there. Stoplight was out--and people were blowing through without stopping.
That's very dangerous as the rule is 4 way stop when the light is not functioning.
