Matt Stoller: Elizabeth Warren should be ashamed of helping set up CFPB
"If someone worked or works for the Obama administration, or the Department of Justice, or any other executive branch agency, they need to remember their service as a mark of shame for the rest of their lives."

2. Did Elizabeth Warren not serve in the Obama
White House as well as in the Treasury Department?

If so, his statement applies to her.

Do you agree with Stoller that any attempting to serve the public in the federal government while Obama is President should be ashamed of themselves?

3. I gather that you have no argument against the core of what Stoller says if all
Edited on Sun Aug-28-11 09:34 PM by Mass
you can do is to make a stupid inference on what is the least important sentence of the article... (BTW, yes, you can infer what you said from the sentence you excerpted, but this is really ignoring the meaning of the article(,

6. The rest of his article is "Obama sux and Schneiderman rox."
Trying to analogize between the two is idiotic--Schneiderman doesn't need to deal with Republicans or legislators to do his job.

9. Um, sometimes an article is so transparently laughable that no response is required.
For another example, if someone told me that we never landed on the moon, I wouldn't spend time outlining and explaining all the evidence to the contrary. The most I would do is marvel that there are actually some who believe this.

25. Sorry, I generally like Obama, but I am disturbed by this story.
And I am even more disturbed by Obama's worshipers lying blatantly. Yes, Obama has to fight with the GOP, but I am tired by now of saying he has to fight with congress. I am tired of him not going after those who screw us up. There are ways to do so, and supporting Schneiderman would be one which does not request the GOP approval.

5. Except that Elizabeth Warren, like Van Jones before her
Elizabeth Warren went to work for the Obama administration to try to do something progressive, like Van Jones. And like Jones, for her trouble, she got the short end of the stick when the Nitwit Brigade came out to savage her on Fox.

13. Elizabeth Warren was forced out of the administration, like Jones
and Shirley Sherrod. But when tens of thousands of people asked that Republican Anti-SS advocate, Alan Simpson be fired for his disgusting remarks about the poor and veterans, the Administration refused to listen.

8. Stoller has fallen in with the despicable Yves Smith and her Conspiracy Theory
blog. They have to make shit up to prove Obama is "corrupt" and the hole she has dug keeps getting deeper. She spent 40 posts trying to tell her readers that Buffett has foolishly thrown his money away on Bank of America. She is out of her league now.

22. It isn't blanket:
If someone worked or works for the Obama administration, or the Department of Justice, or any other executive branch agency, they need to remember their service as a mark of shame for the rest of their lives. Remembering how they participated in this example of how to govern is literally the least they could do for the damage they have caused. I would leave out the small number of people who are there to overtly prevent as much damage as possible, and those who resign or are fired in protest.

Elizabeth Warren versus Barack Obama on Leadership
by Matt Stoller
July 18, 2001

<edit>

There was some laughter in the room, but she wasn’t kidding. Warren believes that consumer protection is necessary for a just society, and spends a great deal of time trying to persuade the public of the necessity and legitimacy of government. Imagine that – a public servant who thinks that communicating with and persuading the public of the merits of their ideas.

Contrast this with Barack Obama, a person who never fails to wrap his true agenda in gauzy opaque process jargon. Obama won’t back his own NLRB or Boeing workers, or even Boeing itself; he thinks that neither side should waste time in court. He won’t announce Social Security or Medicare cuts, he wants it to be part of a Grand Bargain for whom no one has to take responsibility. He demands an end to earmarks, or something, but we need an infrastructure bank or something. As a result, the Democratic Party is enmeshed right now in a guessing game about the true goals of their leader, paralyzed and unable to govern. When Warren is present, by contrast, the Republicans are able to argue strongly that they do not believe in government as an agent of good, while Democrats are able to articulate the opposite. It’s a real, open, honest debate. There’s no sliding around with 11 dimensional chess nonsense, it’s straight up democracy.

<edit>

I’ve seen Warren in crowds before; they love her, they feel like finally, here’s a person who is stronger and smarter and better than the bankers. They crowd around her, tell her their stories, of bankruptcy, of joblessness, of sick kid or parent, as if to say “finally someone is listening”, someone who understands. It’s who she is. It’s real leadership. And it’s why she’s been able to coherently assemble a bureaucracy that has already won accolades for its attempts to simplify lending regulations, and why the Chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel served as a remarkable oasis of intellectual honesty in Washington during the bailouts.

<edit>

Many people are “disappointed” with Obama. But, while it is certainly true that Obama has broken many many promises, he projected his goals in his book The Audacity of Hope. In Audacity, he discussed how in 2002 he was going to give politics one more shot with a Senate campaign, and if that didn’t work, he was going into corporate law and getting wealthy like the rest of his peer group. He wrote about how passionate activists were too simple-minded, that the system basically worked, and that compromise was a virtue in and of itself in a world of uncertainty. His book was a book about a fundamentally conservative political creature obsessed with process, not someone grounded in the problems of ordinary people. He told us what his leadership style is, what his agenda was, and he’s executing it now.

29. Naked Capitalism is a ratfucking Teabagger site, pal
you cannot trust it.

The lead liar, Yves Smith, is a PermaBear, a short who feasts on the downfall of American institutions.

When Buffett bought into BAC ( a short of hers) she went off the range into madness.

35. yes - this will do - her amateurish criticism of the great Warren Buffett
http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2011/08/on-the-buffett-purchase-of-bofa-preferred.html

In this thread Smith admits her short positions, her pump of such to flog her "book" and her lack of understanding of capital.

She wants Bank of America to go down (not bankruptcy) but for their stock to be negated. Buffett ruined her position. She is a fucking idiot compared to Buffett (who is a Democrat).

Then the CT comes out in full force. Obama "helped" Buffett out - or vice-versa.

and reasonable people abandon her - (not me - she banned me 2 years ago)
