Flood worries rise with water in New England (Montpellier to be evacuated)
Edited on Sun Aug-28-11 10:29 PM by nadinbrzezinski
NEW YORK (AP) — The remnants of Irene have turned rivers and creeks into raging torrents in parts of upstate New York and New England.

Authorities in Vermont's capital, Montpelier, warned residents to be ready to evacuate late Sunday as the Winooski River rose.

Parts of downtown Brattleboro and Bennington, Vt., were submerged. Authorities banned the sale of alcohol in New Paltz, N.Y., in an effort to keep spectators away from the dangerous Wallkill River.

Irene took a more westerly path than forecast, putting landlocked Vermont in its path. Homes flooded and culverts and roads washed out statewide.

NOTE ON EDIT: I have never seen this before... the AP used same link for a DIFFERENT story... so using one from another source.

Ok at this point the it was hype (tm) has really gotten ridiculous... a STATE CAPITAL.

I wonder if the emerging Republican talking point, seen here first in the wild, will collapse if they end up doing this...

I have no idea what the problem is. I have my adblock disabled so I don't know what caused the problem.

I'm still not seeing a video.

That's my alma mater! However, the downtown area isn't anywhere near the river...

10. Population of less than 8,000...
Not saying Irene is not packing a punch but lets not blow this story into an armageddon.

11. So the worst flood since 1928 , possibly, is a non story
ok.

Got it.

I'd think that this alone will drive the this is no big deal into this did damage... at the very least.

And the IT'S ALL HYPE, (tm) into perhaps it is not that much hype after all.

JAYSUS... blowing out of proportion...

:banghead:

Non story, GOT IT!

12. Armaggedon?
:wtf:

They are going to have to intentionally flood a state capitol, twice, and there are still some out their hyping the "over-hyped" meme?

Do you of the 'over-hyped' crowd get nuance (as in the difference between cautioning 70mm people to prepare and *****ARMAGEDDON*****)?
