There has been quite a few post about the flooding caused by Hurricane/tropical storm Irene. I would like to thank those Duers for keeping everyone informed. I found two interesting articles about flooding. The first one is about the dangers of inland flooding due to hurricanes. The main idea is inland flooding is a hidden danger from hurricanes.
"Coastal residents understand the dangers associated with hurricanes — heavy rainfall, high wind and storm surge can cause a host of problems.
But did you know that the majority of hurricane-related deaths in the United States do not occur along the coast?
When these powerful storms move over land, they lose wind strength but continue to dump massive amounts of rain into streams, rivers and lakes — posing a serious threat of inland flooding. These floods account for more than 50 percent of hurricane-related deaths each year."

I was looking at the National Weather Service website and there is flooding along the Missouri river and in North and South Dakota. Also earlier this summer there was a very nasty flood earlier this summer. There was also flooding along the Mississippi river earlier this summer. I hope the people in those areas are recovering.
