"In law, treason is the crime that covers some of the more serious acts of betrayal of one's sovereign or nation." "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted."
I here by charge the Republican Party and all those associated with the fringe group called the 'Tea Party' with acts of treason against the United States and its citizens.
The bases for these charges: The undermining of the US Government and the Constitution of the United States. Examples include but are not limited to:
The withholding of aide to disaster areas effected by natural occurrences.
Constitutional violations that recognize religion and divert tax funds to private "educational" institutions.
The continued attempt of the dismantling of public services such as: Social Security.
Attempted deregulation of vital public protection organizations i.e. EPA and FDA
Climate Change denial in the face of facts that support it.
Feel free to add more charges...

1. Don't know about your last one being treason, but the Grover Norquist No new taxes, qualifies. |

That statement doesn't fit with your examples of some of the nastiness that the Republicans partake in.
Yes, the Tea Partiers and many Republicans are evil and disgusting, but I don't believe it quite rises to meet the definition of "treason" as given above.

4. Actually it does. They are working from the inside, against the citizens of this country, to |
|
dismantle our government, i.e., to put a fascist dictator government in its place.

What about when TPers claim the democrats/liberals are trying to dismantle the constitution to install a socialist government?
Are we being treasonous or are we just using our voice for our policy preferences?

5. Your whole post is self-contradictory. Unrec. |
|
You spell out the definition of treason under law, then go on to list acts which are clearly not treasonous under the definition you just supplied. Let's not resort to the sort of histrionic invective Anne Coulter employs.

6. Rec but I have a question... |
|
With charges like this flying back and forth between the two sides are we on the verge of a true civil war? I mean really? I can't see how it would develop but on the other hand if Rick Perry is elected President I can't imagine what would happen next.

8. A Governor who suggests secession from the Union or a candidates 2nd amendment solution comes close. |
|
Allowing foreign influence in United States elections is close. The actions of Senator McCain in Libya are suspicious. Negotiating with Iran in 1979 by candidates for President is treason. Being a dimwitted Republican Tea Party advocating policies that are destructive to national well being do not make the grade (yet),

9. Some of your charges are less defensible than others, but the big idea is right on |

I actually think it would be easy to convict them of treason based on their own public words, spoken and written, on a few different grounds, without even getting into controversy such as the EPA or climate change.
They have opinion leaders who advocate in specific actionable language that right-wing individuals murder government officials, and they have foot soldiers doing the killing. How much more "war" can you get? Do they have to wear uniforms? Carry a flag (actually, they've been known to do that too).
