so we put a little plastic yellow caution man in the street to warn drivers of the down wires |
|
we have a little plastic yellow caution "man" that cautions drivers to slow down. it's meant for children at play, but irene uprooted a neighbor's tree, which crossed the road and took down the power lines, which are hanging dangerously low in the street.
so we put the yellow man in the street to warn drivers before they reach the hazard.
should i be surprised that in less than 24 hours our little yellow man was stolen?
file it under "no good deed goes unpunished."

1. Count your blessings... |

..someone could conclude that "Hey, your wisdom teeth would look really good in the room at the frat", and then you'd be in real trouble.

2. Well... at least you didn't get ticketed. |
|
Seriously. Day after storm,, no power- PD was re-routing ppl through REALLY twisty neightborhood- lots o' cul-de-sacs! Well- one family? Decided to put up a sign on a pickup truck saying "NO GO FURTHER." I think they had gotten sick of ppl going into their area, getting trapped, turning around in their driveways, etc.
cited.
IIRC if was for denying emergency services to multi- family area in case of potential need for help. (wording slips my mind.) Dude- you could have driven a fire truck-
pun not intended between where they tried to block off the area and the actual rest of the street.
Have picture on camera- will try and upload it later....

but i suspect high school kids stealing it as a prank / trophy rather than anyone trying to make a quick buck.

7. Could be the city removed it |
|
If I were you, I would find a payphone and call your local power company and your city government and report the problem. You could give them your name but you risk the chance that they'll determine that you're the one who put a sign/marker on the street and slap you with a fine.

10. i'm quite confident it wasn't the town that removed it |
|
they've got their hands full with downed trees and wires and other emergency aspects of irene.
this one is not remotely the only down tree / power in town.

15. Well, if you're willing to spend more money |
|
Buy a battery operated hazard light, mount it on a wooden dowel or broom handle and either drive it in the ground or insert it in a bucket of sand. The thieves might be hesitant to pilfer it because it looks kind of official.

11. we were worried about that but we cleverly waited until all our neighbors bought their own :) |
|
plus we are running ours all night. it takes quite the daring thief to announce your presence by stopping a loud, running generator.

17. Your looking at it wrong... |
|
It will absolutely keep folks safe...
1. Your little yellow caution man will be visible and in the right place to warn of the danger in the street. 2. By attaching it to the wires you will insure that it does not blow away and remains where the danger is. 3. By grounding it you will discourage the theft of your little yellow man thus leaving it in place to warn of the danger. 4. If someone is so hell bent on stealing it and makes the attempt, we can nominate them for them Darwin award.

Didn't you know? Trust NO ONE ever. Stealing has become the norm.
We've had things stolen from our garage while we were home and two cars were parked in it...in broad daylight!
