The tides are turning, are our leaders going to step up to the plate
Edited on Wed Aug-31-11 09:26 AM by LiberalArkie
like they did in there 60's, 70's & 80's

This is from a friend of mine that I talk to every so often that is as Tea Party as they come.

Entitlement my butt!! Excuse my language, but older Americans paid into Social Security with every pay-check. Their benefits aren't some kind of charity or handout!
Congressional benefits - free health care, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days - real handouts.
And Congress has the nerve to call Social Security and Medicare, entitlements? Re-post if you are sick of their crap, and ashamed of our "leaders."
Keep it going.

3. Your friend has a bad case of cognitive dissonance...
...although he/she is certainly correct on this issue.

4. Still sounds stupid
Doesn't know the definition of "entitlement"

Definition of ENTITLEMENT
1 a : the state or condition of being entitled : right b : a right to benefits specified especially by law or contract
2: a government program providing benefits to members of a specified group; also : funds supporting or distributed by such a program
3: belief that one is deserving of or entitled to certain privileges

Perhaps what he means to say is that, having paid in to Social Security all your working life, and paying Medicare premiums, you ARE entitled to them. There are some games being played with the definition of the word, Republican games that cause a legitimate debt to be looked upon as tin-cup rattling.

Brought to you by the same people who confuse "fraud" with "the bank is behind in their paperwork".

5. SS, Medicare, VA, Pensions are Entitlements
That's why they are called entitlements. Taxpayers who pay into these program are "entitled" to receive the benefits they have been promised and/or paid for.

Opponents of safety net programs want to include Medicaid, food stamps, "welfare", etc in the "entitlement" category in order to confuse people and generate opposition to the genuine programs.

6. The only thing our alleged leaders are going to step up to is
the TROUGH of Corporation Handouts, at which time they will run over each other like the swine they are.
