For the haughty anti-Texas among us
HOW many Louisianans did Texas take in after Katrina?

HOW many Texas firefighters traveled to NYC to help with 9/11 aftermath?

HOW many Texas crews went to Arizona and California to help put out wildfires in the 2000s?

The answer to each question is A SHITLOAD.

So climb off your high horse, because you're embarrassing yourselves.

1. Not anti-Texas, just anti-Perry.
Who himself is anti-Texas. I feel for people who live with state officials ever more backward than Ohio's, if that's possible.

Mine is 78% straight ticket Republican. Satan could run Republican and he would be voted in.

20. Its your turn, Texas. Remember Florida and Alaska getting it in the
ass FOREVER? Personally, I don't have a problem with most any state. Sorting out the idiots from everyone else is not so hard. But sometimes you get it in the cans. It may be God's way of curbing some people's joy in gaffing another state. Lord KNOWS Alaska is defined by Palin. Just check the threads.

5. Being from Mississippi, I don't make fun of other states very much because
every state in the union has assholes-some just more than others. There are also good people everywhere and Texas is full of them (including my aunt in Dallas).

27. It flared up yesterday morning.
Luckily, the volunteer MFD (Mod Fire Department) put it out sometime in the early afternoon. Response time was a little slow, but it was eventually contained and starved of oxygen.

7. I get a lot of it here (at DU) myself.
I live in Cantors district. Therefore I am supposed to pick myself up by my own bootstraps and ALL the people in my community should suffer.

9. I'm originally from Texas and have always said that it would be
nice if Texans would travel just a little out of their own state and see what other states have to offer. Then maybe you wouldn't embarrass your own selves bragging about Texas. I'm in Ca and we have more cattle than Texas for Christ's sake. And you'll find no better firefighters than we have right here and we know how to treat them really good, not slash their budget so they can't do their jobs. Now, you can climb off your high horse also.

14. Your post is certifiable idiocy.
In 2007, 30% of all houses sold in DFW, Austin, and Houston were purchased by Californians. DFW and IAH are major airport hubs. Do you really think people in Texas don't leave Texas?

Your assertions are baseless and dumb. There are conservatives and close-minded people everywhere in the US. Including California, with its Prop 8 and governator. So STFU about Texas as we go through a major disaster. Don't compound the stupid with rude.

17. Why are Californians FLOCKING to Texas?
44% of Texas voted for Barack Obama. That figure alone tells you that Texas is more than wingnuts. Texas is a great state with much diversity and the stereotypes here at DU are dreadful.

10. I'm not anti-Texas.
I hope Texas gets all the federal help it needs to fight those fires AND mitigate dire ramifications of the drought.

However, I have no problem raking Perry over the hot coals.

Cut the firefighting budget by $34 million dollars? Approve a $25 million outlay to bring Formula One racing back? C'mon...

I've got a feeling this sub-thread may end up deleted... or perhaps the whole thread just locked...

My only comment on Texas and the wildfires is: Perry cut firefighter funding by 75%. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/politics/2012-election/texas-gov-rick-perry-cut-fire-department-funding-75

18. I am not anti-Texas I am from Florida Rick Scott sucks big time!
You Texas people have my deepest sympathies. I would never hate on Texas. Molly Irwins came from there (not born there, but was raised there), Ann Richards was born there. There are so many wonderful people in Texas! Don't let assholes like Rick Perry destroy Texas. (Gov. Rick Scott is trying to destroy Florida and he's not even from there! Ugh!)

19. The majority of our largestest cities/counties were won by Obama in 2008
McCain won only one large city: Ft.Worth.

Obama won: Dallas, Houston/Harris, Austin/Travis, San Antonio, El Paso, etc.

Texas is really more PURPLE than red :)

Is, like any other place, there are nice people there and there were some assholes.

However, in Texas, everything just happens to be bigger.
