NEW YORK | Fri Sep 16, 2011 3:17pm EDT

(Reuters) - The passage of President Barack Obama's proposed $447 billion jobs bill would bring 70,000 jobs to New York City and cut the unemployment rate from 8.7 percent to 7 percent, a Democratic congresswoman said on Friday.

A report by the office of U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez of New York also found the proposed full holiday payroll tax would save $381 million for the city's 467,000 small businesses. That provision would apply to businesses with payroll growth of up to $50 million above the previous year.

"All of these things together will increase economic activity and spur hiring," Velazquez told supporters gathered at the steps of New York City Hall.

1. Thank you. I hope all democratic states run the numbers and come up with
how many local jobs will be created if Obama's jobs bill passes. This is how to pressure the GOP. With the facts Mack!

4. LMAO
yeah, okay. Trickle down stimulus is the "word". Gitty up. Love it. Woohoo. Wrapping myself up in it. Trickle down economics works so well, so why not a few more futile rounds of trickle down stimulus to rile up the folks. Then they can say, oh my, we saved the world! Happy salvation. Who do I pray to again for the generous donation?

70 thousand jobs my fucking ass.

It's all a bilking mechanism and our memories are too short to remember.

10. Right wing talking points????
The whole premise of trickle down economics is right wing. But because it comes from the D side of the aisle we wrap ourselves in it and wear it like a fucking flag. Next thing you know we will be supporting more intervention and war in other countries.... Next thing you know we will be celebrating the saving of banks and Wall street. Next thing you know we will be celebrating more free trade. Next thing you know we will be...... AHHHHH what's the use. It's all politics. Nothing matters to right and wrong or liberal ideals anymore. It's all about blind myopia for "our team". blech.

17. "It's just another stimulus!" "Stimulus is totally ineffective" "Obama's plan is useless spending!"
The same basic shit we've got coming from the right wing, no matter how completely bullshit it is.

5. And how, exactly, is this determined?
Sorry, but it sounds more like a number was picked out of a hat rather than a serious study was done.

20. Based on White House estimates
"According the Velazquez study, which based its estimates on the White House's state-by-state summary of the jobs act"

They were so close last time, it only makes sense. :sarcasm:

7. I don't see my congresswoman in the news very often.
She's quiet, and a pretty straight shooter.

14. Nope
Edited on Fri Sep-16-11 06:18 PM by HockeyMom
The REPUBLICAN husband can stay in the gated community in Florida. My daughter in her basement apartment said I can move in with her. Been poor before, and doesn't bother me to be again. Some things are more important, like my kids, 4 seasons, and the disabled people I work with, than money or the trappings of it. POOR people are far more HUMAN than stupid RICH people, or wanna be RICH people.

If you don't understand this, you didn't understand my post, or aren't a real Democrat. BTW, without my misely salary that gated community house will go into FORECLOSURE. Bye, bye, Floriduh.

11. This gives an idea of state by state with the AJA.
A State by State Look at the American Jobs Act

The purpose of the American Jobs Act, which President Obama presented to Congress last night, is simple: Put more people back to work and put more money in the pockets of working Americans. The President's plan will rebuild the economy the American way -- based on balance, fairness and the same set of rules for everyone from Wall Street to Main Street.

The American Jobs Act offers benefits for workers and for business owners -- to see what impact the Jobs Act will have in your community, click on the link below for your state.
