Call for Fox News to drop Glenn Beck
Edited on Thu Jan-13-11 07:40 PM by cal04
Ten thousand sign petition for rightwing talkshow host to be removed amid accusations that he has whipped up hatred in the wake of the Arizona shooting
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/jan/13/glenn-beck-petition-fox

A protest was staged against rightwing talkshow host Glenn Beck today, calling for his immediate removal from Fox News.

The organisers, Jewish Funds for Justice (JFSJ), a charity that campaigns for social change, delivered a petition with 10,000 signatures.

(snip)
Simon Greer, JFSJ's president, said that following last Saturday's Tucson shootings, in which a Congresswoman was shot and six people died, it was time for action. "We are not accusing Glenn Beck or Roger Ailes or Rupert Murdoch of pulling the trigger in Tucson, only one man did that. But we are accusing them of playing to the worst in all of us."

2. Lousy idea for two reasons
First, why would Faux News listen to any of us? We're not their audience.

Second, the one thing that reich-wing mouthpieces live for is threatened martyrdom. It does wonders for their ratings.

19. And for that reason alone, you have to wonder why they keep him on.

17. Doing nothing and allowing the insanity to continue is a lousy idea
Right wingers always win because they make DEMANDS from damn near everyone. Let's grow a spine and start doing the same.

4. Forget about it...
my parents are members of AIPAC (i am not!) and they are basically a group of republicans that support Israel no matter how wrong Israel may be....but the key word is that they are very pro Republican party....Exhibit A: during the START Treaty debate the Republicans ordered AIPAC to keep quiet and not say a word in support of the treaty even though the treat greatly helps Israel in many ways....all kinds of Jewish groups came out in favor of START but AIPAC....AIPAC will never go after the Republicans or anyone like Beck that helps Republicans make dems look worse.....

11. Thanks for info....
I didn't know that. Isn't there a newer group, is it J Street, that is more moderate in tone? Do they always back the Reps as well?

That seems to be the noble mission of Rupert Murdoch and FOX news.

12. Fox doesn't give a shit what anyone thinks.
It exists to propel the right wing message into the public arena. If they had NO sponsors, they would still do it.. It's their mission..

13. Will Fox listen?
Not the concern of those whose duty it is to speak up about this toxic blight on our national discourse. Isn't it odd, though, that the only reporting of this protest comes from a UK media outlet? Do American media folks just not want to badmouth another member of the club?

15. Politics whip up hate. Not people.
I hate the motivations and politics of the Republican party. They hate the motivations and politics of our party.

That's the world.

18. Amazing. A call to actually DO something positive, and what happens? Half of DU
dumps on it. "It won't work! They don't care! Why try??" You know, if the far Right had the same attitude that most here do there never would be a Fox News in the first place.
