FINALLY, we have a President willing to stand UP for the middle class
& willing to say what the MILLIONAIRE talking heads of FIXEDnewsCORP & MOST of the LAMEstreamCORPORATEmedia woN'T, that MILLIONAIRES & BILLIONAIRES NEED TO START PAYING INCOME TAX RATES AT LEAST AS HIGH AS THE MIDDLE CLASS!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnIuOgZZU2Y

The Buffett Rule (or Tax, as FIXEDnewsCORP calls it) requires those who make more than a MILLION$/YR. to pay a rate higher than what they have been for most of the last decade, YET STILL LESS THAN A THIRD OF WHAT THEY DID WHEN REPUBLICAN DWIGHT EISENHOWER WAS PRESIDENT!

Capital gains were treated the SAME AS ANY OTHER INCOME for MOST of the LAST CENTURY, as they DAMN WELL SHOULD BE! There ARE MANY hedge fund managers, stock traders & corporate executives whose income is MOSTLY from stocks (capital gains) & THEY NEED to be paying AT LEAST the same rates on THAT INCOME as those who LABOR HARD for THEIR INCOME!

It is a START; but we NEED to go further with it to regain the FAIRNESS that we ONCE had.

1. but the problem is...
you have alot of irrational Obama liberal haters here and around the blogs that will never bring themselves to support Obama and even dems in congress are chicken shit scared to stand up to the wealthy, and repubs who say NO to everything, so what are the chances of Obama's plan passing? We liberals should be taking to the streets now!

2. This is really the first time Obama has presented an idea on the economy worth supporting. And even

in that case, it comes packaged with some cuts to Medicare and Social Security.

24. I said "cuts" not "cuts to benefits". But IMO they are the same. Even if you cut at the admin level

that could create backlogs and situations where people have less access to services and information. Under the current system my dad has had to fight for years to get his bennies and has had to keep fighting to hold on to them. Laying off admin personnel and closing local offices and such is not good. The removal of access to customer service and/or information, as well as the increase in backlogs that will follow the cuts is only gonna make that fight harder for people like my dad.

Furthermore, I'm sure Obama's plan also involves suspending COLA's (every plan I've read thusfar has, anyway). Suspending COLA's is the same as cutting bennies when you factor in inflation.

39. Why is it so personal to you? Obama is a politician, not anyone's
friend or relative. He was elected by the people YOU are calling 'haters'. That gives them the right, no it is their duty, to let him know when he is going in the wrong direction. Who else is going to tell him?

You will be the reason if he does not get reelected. By 'you' I mean those who blindly support him no matter how wrong he is. And it is comments like yours that will drive away, and I know this for a fact, the most critical votes, those of Independents.

I have heard many of them say that sometimes they are on the fence with him, but when they try to speak about the reasons why, they are attacked by his 'supporters' and they now judge HIM by those supporters. Not being democrats, they feel no obligation to take abuse from those calling themselves the 'base' and Obama's supporters are earning a reputation as being nasty, vicious name-callers, whose only responses to sincere questions about policies, are attacks and name-calling.

I hope whoever is running his campaign reigns in these kinds of 'supporters' they are doing him enormous harm.

And btw, he has finally LISTENED to his critics on the Left and has, according to reports, decided to abandon what was so upsetting to most of his REAL base, his willingness to compromise with people we told him, cannot be compromised with. His new strategy is exactly what we have been asking for the reports say, to become 'confrontational' as he now realizes that his blind supporters were wrong and the 'professional lefties' were right after all.

Good thing for the country not everyone is blindly loyal or we would surely lose the next election.

It is spot-on and perfectly stated, Sabrina.

You will be subject to The Haranguers' unlimited abuse but I would ask that you to post it anyway.

It needs saying: many here saw the Obama admin. going terribly wrong. Many spoke up. And now, course corrections are possibly underway. So, what is it that anyone is guilty of that they must endure abusive serial hate responses?

I want The Haranguers reigned in, too.:hi:

He so hates Obama, and anything Democratic, or not for profit business oriented, Faux News propogranda, that he will cut off his nose to spite his face. Millionaire tax hike? "Democrates will incease taxes on everybody, including my $80,000 a year salary". SS and Medicare cuts? Not for ME, only those younger than 55.

NOTHING that will effect ME!!!!! That is what Faux News brainwashing does. Faux News will slant it that if will not just be millionaires but EVERYONE that will see tax increases. I am subjected to this stuff for hours and this is how they will get their POOR Republicans on their side.

but you conveniently forget that if he did that Unemployment Insurance for millions at the holiday would have faded away...Obama has to go to sleep at night knowing he did right for these people and not any blogger or poster on DU has to have that awesome responsibility (plus he also got the repeal of DADT, START Treaty, and middle class tax cuts).

Please learn all the facts before posting here...thank you very much! :-)

I am a liberal, and would love to support the president(I don't hate Obama)but he has given me ample reason to not trust him, as politicians are wont to do.I will support him, but am anxious that he will pussy out when things get tough, as experience shows. To put it plainly, He needs to fight, we will follow.

28. No. We have a President FINALLY willing to stand up for the
middle class. (Gotta get that headline wording correct.) After all the other DLC scams have been given time to $core.

He's two damn years late with this. He's given the people who bled this economy to death TWO YEARS OF COVER to swoop in and suck up the leavings.

NOW--with his own damn job in jeopardy, provided he still wants it--NOW, he somehow finds the spine to stand up for the Middle Class?

Barack Obama smells to high heaven of Republican Light. He is still talking a good game and we have YET to find out what he will actually DO. There's still plenty of time for him to cave. Or clarify. Or have his underlings tell us what he REALLY meant.

Or whatever the hell you call his crawfishing in the 21st Century. I am deafened by the constant beeping!

38. Full Text (Transcript):
https://historymusings.wordpress.com/2011/09/19/full-text-september-19-2011-president-barack-obama-rose-garden-speech-economy-american-jobs-act-introduces-deficit-reduction-plan-including-tax-increases-transcript/

"It is wrong that in the United States of America, a teacher or a nurse or a construction worker who earns $50,000 should pay higher tax rates than somebody pulling in $50 million. Anybody who says we can’t change the tax code to correct that, anyone who has signed some pledge to protect every single tax loophole so long as they live, they should be called out. They should have to defend that unfairness — explain why somebody who’s making $50 million a year in the financial markets should be paying 15 percent on their taxes, when a teacher making $50,000 a year is paying more than that — paying a higher rate. They ought to have to answer for it. And if they’re pledged to keep that kind of unfairness in place, they should remember, the last time I checked the only pledge that really matters is the pledge we take to uphold the Constitution.

Now, we’re already hearing the usual defenders of these kinds of loopholes saying this is just “class warfare.” I reject the idea that asking a hedge fund manager to pay the same tax rate as a plumber or a teacher is class warfare. I think it’s just the right the thing to do. I believe the American middle class, who’ve been pressured relentlessly for decades, believe it’s time that they were fought for as hard as the lobbyists and some lawmakers have fought to protect special treatment for billionaires and big corporations.

Nobody wants to punish success in America. What’s great about this country is our belief that anyone can make it and everybody should be able to try -– the idea that any one of us can open a business or have an idea and make us millionaires or billionaires. This is the land of opportunity. That’s great. All I’m saying is that those who have done well, including me, should pay our fair share in taxes to contribute to the nation that made our success possible. We shouldn’t get a better deal than ordinary families get. And I think most wealthy Americans would agree if they knew this would help us grow the economy and deal with the debt that threatens our future."
