"Get Ready For A Riot": Mayor Warns of 'Cairo' like mayhem in Big Apple |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-25-11 03:10 PM by Leopolds Ghost
From a New York Daily News headline I saw.
Man the barricades -- the English majors are coming!
Mayor Bloomberg suggested that riots could erupt here, just as they did overseas, if the nation doesn't create more jobs for frustrated, out of work college grads.
"You have a lot of kids graduating college who can't find jobs. That's what happened in Cairo." --Bloomberg
(snip) ...With possible outbreaks of mayhem in the streets (if unemployment rises higher).
"I am not going near that", said an aide to one Democratic elected official.

4. I dont think the mayor is far off the mark ... |
|
Yes .. a tad alarmist, but there is no doubt that shit is getting stirred this moment in the cities and communities where those who wish to work cannot find work ...
Many here in DU warn of unrest ... some choose to foment it as well ... Shrugs - It's a fact of life that something could happen IF things don't pick up soon ...
I have no objection to that assertion ...

WTF does bloomberg want her?
Yes - there is unrest - but it can happen peacefully provided assholes like bloomberg don't act like we are people w/ legit grievance.
He's acting like the rulers of Bahrain or Egypt.

24. There is no need for his assertions to become a fact. |
|
He is trying to scare people in advance of any kind of peaceful protests by the American people. And he's wrong about Egypt and Tunisia also. The protesters there were unarmed, organized and peaceful also, but our 'good friends and allies', Ben Ali and Mubarak chose to send out their armed police and start killing and arresting people, rather than listening to them. Maybe he should take a lesson from happened to those 'friends'. All it did was bring out more peaceful, unarmed people.
Bloomberg and his Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly, need to call off their violent police and start listening instead of brutalizing the people who pay their salaries, then he will have nothing to worry about.
But his and their performance this week was a disgrace. Either they are too stupid to hold the offices they do, or they are trying to get the public angry so they can justify cracking down on peaceful protests. Either way they are part of the problem that badly needs fixing.

5. I heard him say this on talk TV a couple of weeks ago (forget which). |
|
I think this is why the NYPD are going over-the-top with protesters on Wall Street. Bloomberg is so worried about it, he seems to be advising them to do whatever it takes to break it up ... What a giant wart that man is.

really in for it...in a way that Wall St. won't appreciate.
Well, really, isn't it about TIME! How long are we gonna sit around and bitch and moan? The youth have the freedom and the energy and passion.
He's facing some facts here. He's not forgetting what happened with Vietnam. Damn straight, riots in the streets! These kids' futures are at stake.
We old fogies can at least cheer them on. They are performing a patriotic service to our country. It is just sad that it had to come to this...

19. They'd better not plant someone to get violent so they can crack down... |
|
If anyone does get violent during the protests, make certain that we have video, and names/IDs so that there's no disappearing act possible.
Cynical? No, realistic. Think the rich aren't already thinking these things up for themselves?

23. At some point that will happen, but for now I think that violence might breed more demonstrations. |
|
Sooner or later, they will get tired of "putting up" with the protestors and beat them up and dare us to follow up.
WE MUST STAY NON-VIOLENT regardless of what they do. As soon as we become violent they will eliminate more of our rights.
