Dick Cheney's Vancouver visit sparks protest "Shame. Shame on you"
Protesters clashed with police Monday night outside a private club in downtown Vancouver where former U.S. vice-president Dick Cheney was promoting his new book.

As a crowd of about 200 chanted, "Shame. Shame on you" at guests entering the Vancouver Club, a line of police pushed back protesters who tried to surge against the club's front door. Some police officers later donned riot gear, including body armour, masked helmets and Plexiglas shields, but by that time, guests had already entered the venue. Protesters held placards that read, "Cheney War Criminal," and "Torturer."

The protest organizers with Stopwar.ca were demanding Canada arrest Cheney for war crimes because of his controversial support for the use of waterboarding, sleep deprivation and other methods to interrogate prisoners in the U.S.'s war against terrorism. "We're very angry that he has chosen Vancouver as the first location outside of the United States to do a book tour event, and we feel it's important that citizens of Vancouver show that we won't tolerate a war criminal coming and speaking in our town," said Derrick O'Keefe, co-chair of the StopWar Coalition.

14. He's a war criminal, and that's not hyperbole.
He's a criminal that, so far, has been allowed to operate above the law.

15. Yes! These are some nations that would have him arrested
as a war criminal if he enters their countries.

3. Of course he had to promote it at a private club......

...... because Torquemada knows exactly what kind of reception he'll get at an open-to-the-public venue.

7. Since no one is brave enough to arrest this war criminal, then he should be Shunned and Shamed at
every opportunity, rather than given first class treatment and invitations to venues in order to spew his lies and push his book of feces. No one should tolerate the fact that a war criminal is walking free, writing books, making speeches for pay and appearing on television as some respected member of society. He and those of his ilk (and that includes his sociopath daughter), make me sick.

8. Why haven't the Mounties arrested him for war crimes?
Come to think of it, why was Mr. 4 DUIs admitted to Canada in the first place?

10. There are several groups in Canada
that have been on TV here for the last few nights advocating an arrest (ha, I'd like to see THAT on CNN). They all presented very well on tv and had airtight arguments. It'll never happen so long as Harper is PM but most people I know here think he's a criminal who needs to be charged. Even my conservative family.

16. Even the opposition NDP
I think it was the dept of immigration critic. He was quite passionate about denying cheney entry into the country. There is lots of precedence but since Harper has been in power only lefty's like George Galloway get denied entry. Harper would waterboard too if he thought he could get away with it I have no doubt.

17. You don't. He can speak and write as much as he wants. Preferably from prison.
His fellow inmates can decide on how they will respond to his rhetoric.

Cheney's right to speak doesn't mean other people cannot shout at him.

19. This Cretan is alive and walking around
because a machine is circulating the blood his dead heart is unable to do.

How many Americans have access to that type of high tech healthcare?

He makes me retch. Shame on Canada for breaking their own laws about
allowing human rights violaters into their country and congrats to the Canadians
that showed up in protest.

20. I can't believe Cheney was allowed to cross the border
Didn't he have at least one DUI? Those with DUI's aren't allowed into Canada... Allegedly.
