28. Voting for Obama in 2008 involved holding your nose?
Dukakis? Mondale?

31. I actually did like Dukakis and Mondale both and voted for Dukakis, without
holding my nose too tightly.

I was cheated out of my vote for Mondale when the election board "lost" me in 1984. They were switching records to comp and apparently I just disappeared. Raised holy hell and had never heard of a provisional ballot at the time.

It was nothing personal against Obama, just very few politicians have ever inspired me. I understand it's all just a game for most of them, smoke and mirrors.

9. Observer Editorial -Jimmy Carter: A man of principle – still active, still looking for ways to serve
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/sep/11/jimmy-carter-human-rights
snip>
Jimmy Carter, now aged 86, 39th president of the United States (1977-1981), is that increasingly rare phenomenon in international politics: a man of modesty and principle. Whatever his failures and successes while in office, an interview in the New Review reveals the values that have shaped his three decades of service. He is a citizen of the world, shunning the exploitation of his political career via the pursuit of celebrity, wealth, and the acquisition of all the often ridiculous paraphernalia of visible affluence.

The Carter Centre, the foundation that he and his wife, Rosalynn, set up in the 1980s, in their home town of Plains, Georgia, is the base from which the couple work to eradicate diseases such as Guinea worm and river blindness and from where they champion human rights.

This autumn, as he has done every year, Carter will be helping to build homes with volunteers, this time in Haiti. As one of Nelson Mandela's Elders, a group of elder statesmen, he visits the most intractable trouble spots negotiating to avoid conflict and bloodshed, motivated not by commercial considerations but from a respect for human life.

It's an unusual moral maze for a leading politician to enter but even his harshest critics must acknowledge, Jimmy Carter has navigated the challenge superbly well.

17. Happy birthday, Jimmy Carter!
It's a shame you're so misunderstood. If the American people had used their brains and reelected you, we wouldn't be facing problems like terrorism, the environment, the wars overseas, the deficit, the economy, and income inequality. Pretty much all of these issues either started or got significantly worse under the cowboy/idiot Ronald Reagan.

21. Happy Birthday Jimmy Carter
Happy 87th birthday to probably the most truly good person to hold the office of President of the United States, certainly in recent times.

And a Christian in the best sense of the word.

24. I miss him.
Not, perhaps, the best president we've ever had, but I consider his foibles to be trivial in comparison to those of the last few presidents (and yes, that includes the current one). Any mistakes President Carter made always seemed to be from the best of motivations. The man has a heart. He's the kind of Christian a non-believer like me can respect and admire because his actions reflect his beliefs.
