You have to have enormous chutzpa to call yourself the "American standard"
Edited on Tue Oct-04-11 08:28 AM by Laura PourMeADrink
Thought I'd buy an American Made kitchen faucet, so I did a bit of research. Guess what, there was only one decent sized US company that designs, manufacturers and assembles all in the US (Symmons-Braintree MA). Maybe I am naive, but this shocked me and made me mad. I know, it's only a faucet, but, I wonder how many other American companies and Chinese manufacturers have quietly moved to this business model, under the radar. By the way, if you try to access buyamerican.com, the website's even down.

"American Standard (sinks, toilets, faucets)is quickly becoming a Designer as it shifts most of its acctual production overseas to third-party-controlled factories."

"It is no secret that most North American faucet manufacturers have shifted much if not all of their manufacturing to other countries, primarily China. It is less well known that many Western European manufacturers have done much the same thing; shifting manufacturing to former Soviet Bloc countries in Eastern Europe where there is an abundance of lower-cost skilled labor and existing manufacturing facilities. Many traditional American faucet makers have become little more than marketing companies, lending their brand names to Chinese products. This is one reason that the various faucets offered by various brands seem to look so similar. They are often made by the same large Chinese manufacturer, with only slight stylistic changes."
