Anyone else a little disturbed that the new Dem governor of WV got the coal |

industry endorsement?. Bummed me out. " Tomblin has outraised Maloney, but the gap has been made up due to Maloney partially self-funding the race, and even more so thanks to outside spending. Much of the state's establishment has lined up behind Tomblin, including the Chamber of Commerce and the coal industry" http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/10/04/1022781/-WV-Gov:-Previewing-tonights-special-electionresults?via=blog_1

1. Probably can't win that state without it |
|
Yes, it's disturbing, but it's also the reality.

4. Has there ever been a statewide Dem elected to office without it? |
|
Robert Byrd and Rockefeller certainly had/have to walk the fine line....

5. Someone on DU just recently said that Tomblin was a Blue Dog... |
|
I guess we will have to wait and see what his policies are going to be like.

8. Obama had to treat w/the coal industry to become a senator. |
|
When that's a big part of your state's economy, what are you going to do?
WV, IL, PA, KY...lots of states make big money off coal. A big chunk of our country would be cold and in the dark without it, too.
Doesn't disturb me in the slightest. It's like telling someone in Nebraska to be opposed to corn.
Would I welcome the day when more sustainable options are available and coal states find new sources of income? Absolutely. But that day is not upon us, yet.
