Understanding opposition to using the Article V convention option |
|
I continue to be saddened by the consistent opposition by members here to using what the Founders gave us to reform the government no longer trusted by citizens: the Article V convention option that gives state delegates the constitutional right to propose amendments. Opponents see more risk in having a convention (despite the safeguard that proposed amendments must still be ratified by three quarters of the states and the first convention in the nation's history would receive incredible public scrutiny)as compared to maintaining the status quo, which is based on a two-party plutocracy that is not serving the 99%. Is this because people here still think that the Democratic Party will actually enact true, deep reforms of the political, government and economic system? If so, then convention opponents deserve the delusional democracy we have.

crazies in positions of power. I don't want to see a theocracy, and that's what the tparty reps in the house and senate are all about, as well as the makeup of many many of the state legislatures. With those kinds of people there, it wouldn't take long to change this country into one that we wouldn't recognize with God as the main ingredient to the constitution.
One of the main reasons people populated this country in the 17th and 18th centuries was for religious freedom. Bloody Mary in England, the Spanish Inquisition, and other religious atrocities were fresh in their histories and they escaped from that kind of thinking.
It would be a travesty to give an opening to the religious right to have a toehold in mixing religion into our government. Look at the middle east countries..they have no idea on how to separate religion and state policies. To them, they are one and the same..and look at how backward most of them are yet.
