Marines Forbidden to Roll Up Sleeves
Marines Forbidden to Roll Up Sleeves

Regardless of whether they’re deployed or what the temperature is, Marines will now have to keep their shirt sleeves rolled down.

Commandant General James Amos has declared that as of October 24, no Marine may be permitted to roll up their sleeves, which had been a common practice.

The declaration did not include an explanation for the policy change, although one official said that the intention is for the service to maintain “one uniform policy, a single look.” There has been some speculation that Marine leaders want to discourage the display of tattoos.

Amos also tried to forbid Marines from wearing KIA bracelets commemorating comrades who have been killed in action, as part of a ban against wearing jewelry. However he backed down on Tuesday. Presumably, Marines can now wear the bracelets…under their sleeves.

1. So they're in a foreign land... tired and dirty and getting shot at and...
...all the well knowing that death is on the nearest Land-Mine but it's important that they don't look "un-stylish"

Oh Brother....

7. Sorry having sleeve's of tattos isn't military or professional....
even many police are not allowed to show them... A good solution would be wool uniforms...Some of these guys look like the Yakuza.

8. Sorry, this is good policy...
Many soldiers get violent, offensive tatto's. It's a bonding thing that unless you've been under fire, you can't understand.

Most of those are tatted on the forearms or biceps.

An order to keep them covered while on duty is entirely appropriate.
