EPA chief tells GOP to STFU
BY CHRISTOPHER MIMS
21 OCT 2011 11:29 AM

That high-pitched whistling is the sound of EPA chief Lisa P. Jackson's hand knifing through the air on the way to delivering a righteous slap upside the head of the GOP. Here are the money quotes from her editorial in yesterday's LA Times, in which she patiently explains that the Grand Ol' Party wants to kill jobs by blocking critical air pollution regulations.

Using the economy as cover, and repeating unfounded claims that "regulations kill jobs," they have pushed through an unprecedented rollback of the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and our nation's waste-disposal laws, all of which have successfully protected our families for decades.

If the house succeeds, says Jackson, it will mean the sickening or deaths of hundreds of thousands of U.S. citizens.

This is not hyperbole. The link between health issues and pollution is irrefutable. Mercury is a neurotoxin that affects brain development in unborn children and young people. Lead has similar effects in our bodies. Soot, composed of particles smaller across than a human hair, is formed when fuels are burned and is a direct cause of premature death. Nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds contribute to the ozone alert days when seniors, asthmatics and others with respiratory problems are at serious risk if they do nothing more dangerous than step outside and breathe the air.

1. Yet another WTF. I hope more Americans are realizing that if the GOP gets all the way in
Edited on Sat Oct-22-11 05:29 PM by RKP5637
they'll have nothing to worry about, because citizens will eventually be dieing all over the place. It wouldn't even be a country anymore. It will be a toxic waste dump. The GOP has to be stopped to ensure survival of the human species.

4. Gop Should
Be forced to live and eat, drink and deal with the level of toxin exposures people living near Their 'production facilities' deal with everyday. Let their body and offspring's bodies over- load kill them off too .No specially grown organic food deliveries, air filtration, tap water filtration,or knowledgeable private doctors and dentists to help them stay toxin free..Let them feel the consequences of what they've done to the world and to us.

6. The sad thing is, many of them do
The ones who vote for them in the South and West, in rural areas, in mining country. They vote GOP because they think it will bring them 'jobs' when all it brings them is sickness and death.

11. It's amazing, isn't it ... the propaganda is incredible to get these folks to
vote in their worst interest, but after years one would think they would get the message, but they don't.

We have the same thing here in the rural areas of the state, and in the wealthy areas they all vote R so they can F over the poor R's in the rural areas, so the net/net is the entire state goes solid solid red.

I just have no idea anymore what it will take to get people to wake up and pay attention to valid information.

8. Don't forget the CEO's and CFO's of the corporations
I'd love to see the decision makers that authorize mountain destruction, with tons of ammonium nitrate/diesel fuel explosives, live a few hundred yards from the site with their families. Let them drink the contaminated well water, breath the toxic dust laden air. It might just be uncomfortable at first but it will be a whole lot different 10 years from now.

When you have to catch your breath after just walking upstairs. When your teenage child has to have an organ removed or get treated for some other ailment that usually only affects those over 70!

There's that old saying that "you don't shit where you eat" but for me anyone that would shit on those that serve them their meals deserves no mercy or pity.

3. Irresponsible dentists still put in mercury fillings.
They insist they are safe and all the evidence shows they are not.

I got all my fillings replaced with Cerex.
I also got my root canals taken out and the anaerobic bacteria cleaned out from the roots.
Most dentists don't do that.

5. I could NEVER afford
a dentist like yours.Besides MA only will pay for amalgam. On MA you can't privately PAY a doctor to do it,either. They are all trying to kill the poor off, slowly so we die younger, live sicker .There's a shitload of profits in the human misery industry..

13. The GOP anti-lifers must be stopped permanently!
Obama is far from perfect, but he's a hell of a lot better than anything those freaks of nature have to offer.

14. If corporations and the GOP get regulations reduced it will cost billions
of dollars, even trillions in health care costs while they will make billions. It is a transfer of wealth from middle america to the rich.

15. Another frustrating dem messaging failure. Starting with 2000,
environmental issues ALONE should have been enough to win elections. This issue, and the difference between dems and Rs, is very important to many, many Americans. The insane destruction of the commons and plundering of resources and continuing pollution of life sustaining environments has NOT been countered effectively for Americans. Knowledge has been, ironically, perverted and polluted and therefore the political consequences are dire. Because the powers that be have deceived many, many americans the political win goes to those who are loudest and more shameless.

This is not referring to the good defense described in the OP...but rather to the dems overall. The case is not hard to make...just requires intent, as Jackson demonstrates.
