Right-wing Whackadoodle News: Linda Harvey says LGBT doctors and nurses are out to convert your kids
Edited on Sun Oct-23-11 07:11 PM by marmar
from HuffPost:

Linda Harvey, founder of Mission America, a "Christian pro-family organization tracking current cultural issues," and radio host, has a warning for the parents of America: Don't let your children see gay health practitioners.

Speaking on her radio show on Thursday, Harvey began the discussion by mentioning NCHARGE, the Nationwide Children's Hospital's Advocates Representing Gay Employees, which, as she says the group's meeting minutes show, is involved in activities like participating in a pride parade, attending a health expo on adolescent health, being concerned about same-sex partner benefits, and "planning to be identified with rainbow lapel pins."

Once she revealed those oh-so-shocking items on their agenda, she posed a question to her listeners:

"Let’s say your eleven year-old has broken her leg rather badly and needs to be in the hospital a few days, which would you prefer: a nurse who’s proud of her lesbianism, who has rainbow identifiers on her work clothing, or a nurse who does not?"
.................(more)

1. I just want a nurse who will take good care
of my kid.

I do not think various identifiers, such as religious or political ones, should be on the clothing of someone like a nurse. Just my opinion. I don't care what a person believes, just keep it to yourself at the workplace.

2. Her paranoia is unbelievable.
*facepalm*

A truly professional nurse does NOT allow her sexuality to be part of any work she does, PERIOD.

and protect their children. Those LGBT doctors and nurses can't have more power than this lunatic's Jebus.

6. How come it is so easy to catch being gay and so hard to give it up?
You know, personally, I'd far rather see the rainbow. Even though I'm not gay, that's a whole level of bigotry I know I won't have to encounter, and in my own experience it correlates well, though not perfectly, with less bigotry in most other areas.

Two wrongs don't make a right, but six or seven in short order certainly make a stupid.

Because that is *exactly* what the fundies try to do, recruit your kids.

They always, always accuse others of what they are themselves doing.

Edited for grammer..

8. One of my school friends is gay and a pediatrician
One of the guys that I've known since elementary school, and recently re-connected with on Facebook, is a pediatrician in Tennessee. He's also gay. (Something that I didn't know in school, but when I found out, I wasn't surprised.) Anyway, I've noticed that he has quietly withdrawn from FB, or at least as far as I know. He was pretty out about his sexual preference on FB. I'm wondering if he was warned about it because of this nonsense.

FWIW - he was one of the smartest kids in our class. Any parent whose kid comes under his care should consider himself lucky.

10. When my son was 4, he was in a children's hospital for a week
with an infection that they thought might be MRSA. It turned out that it wasn't and he fully recovered.

All of those who cared for him were wonderful, and the chaplain that came in during the worst of it spoke with me about when she and her partner had endured a stay with their child (my husband listed Unitarian on our religious preferences in the admitting paperwork). She was a great comfort to me and my boy, and I would like to smack this Linda Harvey upside her hate-filled head for thinking this would harm my son. However, my Unitarian principles prevent me. Lucky her.
