Are the Democrats going to step up and support the Occupy movement or not?
Or are they going to wimp out?

Do we have to do this without them?

I'm sick of the prevarication.

Dems in Congress: Get off the fence!

Dammit. We have the support of 70% of Americans.

We should be kicking Republican ass. This vehicle is perfect. Any Democrat should be embracing this.

Instead, crickets.

I'm thinking we have to do this independently.

What do you think?

1. Let the first Dem who is without corruption voice support for #Occupy.
Because that person will not be afraid of the fact that the current political system is obsolete and over.

9. It's not obsolete, it's just been sold.
Get the money out of politics, and things will change for the better. Now they all have to sell themselves to get into office. Even the good ones.

You know, Bernie Sanders has spoke up for OWS. Here's a video of his: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HSaZOSWfrU

Sort of like not being able to wash the old homestead because the dirt is the only thing holding it together.

16. Don't be afraid of change. The GA format of #Occupy is true democracy and a far better thing
than we currently have, with voter fraud, rigged electronic machines, bought judges saying "no recount", etc.

39. Exactly, the disenfranchisement has been discussed here this week,
the attacks on hispanic voters and republican changes to voter registration laws etc.

And I clearly remember George W. Bush sitting in a jet with Jeb, smirking about how they were going to take Florida, you can count on it. Gloating.

Rarely do they all speak with one voice, as they do now. Even after 9/11 there was squabbling among Democrats, but the Occupy movement draws disdain from all.

just are respecting the fact that OWS does not want the DCC to try and take control or make it their movement. That's the way I read it.

11. My guess is not
They will mouth a few platitudes like how they understand where the protesters are coming from, or they can identify with the goals of the movement.

And in that respect they will differ from republicans who will dismiss all Occupy people as dirty fucking hippies, George Soros puppets, or islamist dupes manipulated by Obama.

But no republicans and few Democrats will dare to say anything that will offend the people who write the checks.

is getting plenty of press by themselves, and the sides are being drawn. I think political involvement would dilute the message. This is grassroots and should probably stay that way.

22. Democrats who REALLY want to support the Occupy movement can get their ass in gear and work...
...to start passing legislation which addresses the continuing economic disparity in this country. They don't need to show up at a single protest or make a single speech supporting Occupy to do that.

In short, all they need to do is...their job.

26. Steve, we have to do this independently
We aren't going to get help from the Democrats inside the beltway bubble. Too many of them are just as beholden to the same slimy, greedy special interests that the Republicans are. It was a handful of corporate Democrats who destroyed the public option that would have made the health care bill something to be proud. Because of them, private health insurers are still running a racket. But those senators will still get their bribes large corporate campaign contributions. Even the corporate Democrat who lost her bid for re-election was last seen ignobly taking a job as a lobbyist for a conservative firm.

The system is too corrupt to respond to a popular movement. We're really on our own.

While I want politicians to let the people lead this movement, I also expect them to do something when they see people's rights being violated. They don't need to stand with us in the streets, but they do need to stand up for us when we are assaulted by an out of control police force.
