That looks like the time when bystanders rushed forward to help and someone tossed a canister into the group who had come over. This seems to be after the actual time when he was hit. Not much help, really.

I only said that the shot that hit him was not positively identified, nor who fired it, in any of the videos I've looked at. I thought there might be some other video I hadn't seen, but apparently not. Unless someone steps up and positively identifies the cop who fired that round, I think it's going to be very difficult to say who did it.

The situation was handled extremely poorly by the police. No question about that. There was no reason for any tear gas to be fired. I'd be looking at whomever was in command of this action, unless it's demonstrated who fired that particular cannister.

18. Yes, there is video that shows exactly where the shot

came from, it also shows that the same perpetrator who shot Scott Olsen appears to the one who fired on the people who went to rescue him. I don't think it will be long before he is identified, and the sooner the better. He is a threat to the people and doesn't belong on any police force.

which is the second part of what happened, after Scott Olsen was hit and the people ran over to help him, you can see the cop who launched the flash grenade at the helpers. In the other video it showed the cop throwing the canister and then, what appears to be the same cop, throwing the flashbang at the helpers. The uploader of this video highlights the cop raising his, or her, arm and aiming at the helpers. If it is the same guy, looks like s/he could be identified from this video.

At :55 behind ESU Bergstresser you can two officers with something other than night sticks cradled in their arms. Unlike the officers in the front line there are no easily read names on their uniforms. I wonder if one of those is the one who shot the round that hit Scott Olsen?

Right about :45 you see someone in the crowd throwing a smoke grenade back at the police line. Then you see a flash trail - I think that is the ricochet of the round that hit Scott Olsen because right about the point that trail starts is where he seems to be lying. The crowd returns to that spot and then you can see the flash bang that disperses the crowd that was trying to help him.

There is another knot of people and some flashes and tear gas below that point - that is the lady in the wheelchair that was also targeted by police.

I don't know enough about the characteristics of this kind of ammunition to tell what direction the round that hit Scott Olsen came from. I don't see any trail before the flash that began at the point I believe Scott Olsen ended up on the ground.

You can see the Navy vet with the flag near the cop line. Scott is the light colored blob behind him obscured by smoke from the flashbang smoke and CS billowing from the wheelchair person. Right after a can is thrown back from there a flashbang goes off near Scott, and he starts staggering up to where he collapsed. After he starts staggering, you can see CS starting to puff up from near where he was standing.

Without staggering. I just closed all my links to the video but there one where you see the flash and behind some other people you can see a hand fly up, then Scott hitting the ground. I think he was nearly unconscious almost immediately on being hit. If, as the video of him being carried off seem to show, he was hit on the front of the head just above the eyebrow, that can knock you out instantly. I know, I was hit there once by a horse. It's pretty much the definition of being pole axed.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- US Marines are gathering evidence to prosecute the officers who shot fellow Marine Scott Olsen, member of Veterans for Peace, at Occupy Oakland on Tuesday night. Scott was standing in front of police to protect the people behind him, when police fired directly at him. Scott suffered a brain fracture when a police projectile struck him in the head. After Scott was down, and people rushed to help him yelling for medics. Police threw a flash grenade at Scott after he was unconscious and bleeding from the mouth and head.

On Twitter today, eye witnesses say that the San Francisco Sheriff's Department was on the front police line at Occupy Oakland when the tear gas canisters were fired. In the video below, San Francisco Sheriff ESU team member Scott Bergstresser, the man with two stripes, is standing next to officer Ceciel Yambao.

"Multiple copies of the videos used to ID Yambao, Bergstresser and officer Hugo Aparicio are on servers. Too late for YouTube takedowns," according to a Twitter message.

"Two questions that Bergstresser should be asked under oath: Did you fire directly at Scott? Did you throw a grenade?" At minimum, San Francisco Sheriff ESU Bergstresser is a witness. Bergstresser struck at a disabled woman several times with his baton before the gas attack began.

They were already skirting a Federal takeover, with a January deadline to get their act together. Now, they've gone and royally violated the terms of a settlement in a 2003 case they lost to ACLU -- for exactly this type of bad behavior with protesters.

Howard Jordan is interim Chief and goes back with this department so he's more likely part of the problem and not the solution. I hope he gets his ass handed to him for being so reckless with the lives of others. He's lucky nobody got killed.
