2. I live in Mississippi
I'm just as appalled as you are that we pick one scientific fact to make legislation on, and deny about 10,000 others, specifically ones that endanger a mother's life.

It's about the stupidest thing I've ever heard of, and yes, it happened in my state.

12. Agreed
I wouldn't even exist under this law, because my mother would have died before I got the chance to be born.

3. I tried going to the website and was going to donate
Edited on Fri Oct-28-11 08:29 PM by LiberalFighter
but then got a 503 error message. Will have to try later. I imagine they had an overload of people donating?

The lady was asking for donations.

http://www.votenoon26.org/

Finally able to get back to the main page. Could go to other pages but not the donate page. Must be overload.

Finally got to donate.

10. Mississippi: We hang on to one specific scientific fact
That life begins when sperm meets an ova

And ignore about 10,000 other facts that make that "union of life" non-viable.

Welcome to Mississippi, the "we don't believe in science unless it supports our religious views" state.

I wouldn't exist under this law, because my mother would have died because doctors couldn't tell whether the fetus in her womb was viable or not. She nearly died in a hospital. My father had to move her to a different one so they could do what was necessary to save her life.

15. Trust me people in the state are not aware of the nasty
For example facing homicide charges for a spontaneous abortion...

And I am glad your parents did what was needed.

30. If it's any consolation...
I live in Louisiana. One of Mississippi's fiercest competitors for the title of worst in the nation.

No doubt that personhood crap will make its way here soon. We already have the creationist garbage in schools.

Anyhow George Carlin said it all best: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCWC4sHbIV0

One book I think everyone should read is "The Girls Who Went Away" by Ann Fessler. It's about the women who became pregnant before Roe v. Wade in the baby scoop era.

I didn't get a chance to watch Rachel tonight so I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

16. I have been there, so i understand their way of thinking.
My son lived there for a while until I convinced him and his wife to move to the Atlanta area. He was becoming brainwashed by the religious right.

17. Under this law, I never would have been born
My mother had a "baby" in her womb that they couldn't tell was viable or not. They literally were about to let her die in a Catholic hospital. My father said he could smell the death scent from outside of the room. He moved his wife.

She was found to have nearly died of sepsis because of a dead fetus in her womb that she miscarried. I was born a couple of years later.

*I* wouldn't be here if not for modern medicine that shockingly enough, values women and patients over "maybe viable fetuses".

19. Masturbation
kills all those tiny babies that could have been. Should be illegal. Also, all tampons and pads should be sent to the police to check for murder. All. Every month. The state needs to appropriate funds for that too.

25. This is ignorance personified
*I*, a living breathing human being, wouldn't exist under this law, because my mother would have died in a hospital from a miscarriage.

This is taking being a theocrat to extremes. I will not live in a theocracy if I can help it, and if we do, we are no better than any other theocracy.

29. I wish I could recall more of the specifics,
but about forty years ago, as reproductive technology improved, and our understanding of such things improved, I understand that it became understood that a very large percentage of zygotes (which is what the life begins at conception idiots are talking about) never really implant and more women have what amounts to very early miscarriages than anyone had realized. In fact, if you just ask around you'll find a lot of women who report something like, "I thought I might have been pregnant but then I got my period only it was a lot heavier than usual."
