Drug overdose death at Occupy vancouver. Rest in peace young lady. |

We need to get on this once it is confirmed. For instance how many people in total have been to the demonstrations around the world? How close is the Occupy vancouver campsite to the downtown eastside (where there is a massive drug problem)? How dangerous is it when drug addicts get access to a sudden source of new money? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2011/11/05/bc-occupy-vancouver-death.html

1. Some interesting comments at that link |
|
"Out of any city, I won't be surprised of drug use in Vancouver. It's a big problem, outwardly, on a regular bases only blocks away from where the camp is."
_____
"I am sorry to hear of this but not surprised.
If one takes the belief that the occupy group comprises a primarily disaffected population.....
then it follows that likely subjed to more risk factors than the general population."

2. NO CONFIRMATION it was an OD |
|
So please don't assume it was just because there was an OD there last week.
It could just as easily have been hypothermia.
A lot of occupiers weren't exactly prepared for cooler weather.

also don't automatically assume that she was one of the Occupy Movement members, and I say that because the NYPD have been "encouraging" unruly homeless people (addicts also) to go visit their "friends" in Zucotti Park.

3. It is just more noticable than at, say, a large hotel |
|
Hotel mangers and staff know how to get a corpse whisked away without disturbing the other guests.

Period.
They would have already been asking for moneymoneymoney if they were fiending.

I am glad that the #Occupy camps are seeking to address the problems of ALL humans. Addiction is horrific. RIP sweet one...

6. This has nothing to do with Occupy. Vancouver is the North American OD capital. They based Da Vinci'... |

Inquest on the story of Vancouver coroner, Larry Campbell who was the coroner in the downtown east end during the last OD/suicide epidemic. He used to call his shift, "bring out your dead". He would go to hotels in the three block radius of 100 block Hastings St and record three OD's a night, 24/7. I personally knew a street person who was murdered in one of those hotels because a pimp/drug dealer thought he stole his stash.
Drug O/Ds in Vancouver are political but they have nothing to do with the Occupy movement.
