Is President Obama supporting the occupation of Wall Street? Here in
Vancouver, the occupy situation has turned around, a 23 year old girl was found dead in a tent and we have elections for Mayor on November 19. I like Mayor Gregor Robertson but his opponent is very vocal.

That's my posting from Vancouver to keep you all abreast of what is going on here! The occupy movement here is about to close!

3. No reports yet but the news reported that whilst her tent was cordoned
off, people were singing nearby! I find that hard to believe as I went to the site about a week ago and I saw a fire truck but no police. It was cold, so am hoping she did not die from the cold. One person overdosed, so now some are saying it is a drug site!

I have no idea how they brave the cold but come November 19, the site will be gone! So much for democracy!

9.  Lows in the 40s is not generally life-threatening
Jeepers, you British Columbians must have thin blood. I lived in Minnesota for 14 years. We didn't consider it cold till it hit about minus 20. 43 at night was balmy.

But seriously: the temperatures there haven't even hit freezing in the middle of the night, and even that would not be life threatening unless you have no clothes or blankets. And you'd have to be pretty damned stupid to sleep outside if you didn't.

It's possible she had a heart condition or other unknown malady.

4. I had to google this, since the OP provided zero information
It's not clear yet. But there is some suggestion it may have been a drug overdose (there was a non-fatal one in the same camp earlier, and drugs have apparently been a problem). I suppose an official inquiry will determine the actual cause.

about the President, you are against him! Whatever happened to asking or questioning?

14. Funny then that there haven't been many if any anti-Obama signs.
Gee, it's almost like OWS doesn't agree with you.

15. OWS protesters are smart enough to know Obama didn't CAUSE the anger
Edited on Tue Nov-08-11 03:19 AM by Skittles
(unlike teabaggers).......but I very much believe the anger became noticeable when people realized Obama was more interested in bailing out Wall Street than Main Street - Obama needs to stay out of it

5. Geithner and Daley have called OWS "unhelpful"
Obama has definitely not endorsed.

7. We are having mayoral elections soon, Gregor has not been too
helpful with homelessness. He is being rivaled by another party which claims to end homelessness here by 2015, her name is Susan Anton.

We have lots of homeless people here and no matter what one does to help, it is not enough. It breaks my heart to see people sleeping in the cold on church steps!

10. Susan Anton?! Not *that* Susan Anton?
The hot celebrity from the 70s-80s?

Vancouver is puzzling to me. Seems like a lot of drug use and homelessness. Is it actually disproportionate?

So sad that so many are brutalized by the Predator Class these days.

11. Yup, she is that person. She goes to Occupy Vancouver, sides with
the occupiers and now she is changing her story, these flip floppers are a delight. Am Sure Gregor will get reelected!

12. At least Mayor Gregor is holding his ground, apart from an overdose
and a death, he maintains that occupy Vancouver is not a threat. I have to tell you, I went to occupy Vancouver and those people have a lot of stamina to stay in the cold. There are lots of police there and the fire people.

18. Well naturally Obama's more conservative advisors would declare OWS "unhelpful"
Since they are unhelpful to electoral strategy which is the number one thing most career political advisors care about.

Who are Obama's more liberal advisors, BTW?

Even Johnson had liberal advisors who the anti-war and civil rights folks could appeal to, although it rarely worked...

Hell, Nixon visited the hippies camped out at the Lincoln Memorial, although he was drunk at the time.
