Allen West Says He Was in a "White Supremacist Motorcycle Gang"
Edited on Mon Nov-14-11 05:43 PM by Ian David
Source: The New Times

Remember that attack on Rep. Allen West stating that he'd been in sort of a motorcycle "gang" that didn't care too much for nonwhite people?
http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/pulp/2010/10/allen_west_nbc_outlaws.php

Well, it's true, West apparently admits -- 13 months after NBC Nightly News ran a segment detailing his ties to the gang and after the congressman denied it on multiple occasions throughout that time.

West changed his story Friday on a North Dakota-based radio talk show hosted by Scott Hennen in response to a question asking whether presidential candidate Herman Cain is being attacked because he's a black conservative.

Scott Hennen: Is it an attack on a black conservative because he's a black conservative?

Congressman West: "Oh come on, I mean you know I was the only black member of a white supremacist motorcycle gang, so liberals and there are certain others I would say even within our party that are not comfortable with strong black conservative voices, and I would say there are people that feel very threatened by that because we do stand on principle. We are someone or entities that are out of the mainstream, if you want to call it that, so liberals are definitely going to come at you. But I think you also have this inner fight within our primary candidates for that piece of the pie that they want to have."

1. He denied it to The Huffington Post:
The Outlaw Motorcycle Club is one of the more notorious and oldest clubs on this list. The gang started in Matilda’s Bar on old Route 66 in McCook, IL in 1935. Using the insignia on Marlon Brando’s leather jacket in The Wild One as inspiration, the club adopted the skull with cross pistons as their official club patch. Since the club began over 70 years ago their chapters have spread widely across the United States and have been well established in Australia, Asia, Europe and North and South America.

Harry Joseph Bowman, The World Leader of The American Outlaw Association (A.O.A.), was the international president of The Outlaws Motorcycle Club and presided over 30 chapters in the U.S. and 20 chapters in 4 other countries until he was sent to prison for 3 murders in 1999 after being on the F.B.I’s Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitive list in 1998. Across the globe members of The Outlaws have been suspected, arrested, tried and convicted of countless crimes from prostitution, trafficking in narcotics and stolen goods, arms dealing, extortion and murder.

Allen West, Florida's controversial and tea-party-backed candidate for Congress, was accused recently by NBC News of being connected to the Outlaws motorcycle gang.

The Huffington Post reported Monday that West's campaign fired back. They claim the Outlaws do "not accept blacks, Jews or gays." While they might not initiate West as a "1%-er," or a brother who lives and breathes the Outlaw reputation, that doesn't stop him from having connections to the dangerous gang.

4. He is a liar before he is
person of sarcasm:

As NBC reported tonight, West has had personal dealings with the Florida chapter of the Outlaws, which lists on its website “Brothers In Prison,” which NBC correspondent Lisa Meyers says includes “many” who “were convicted of violent crimes, including murder.”

Meyers reports on email correspondence between West and a supporter nervous about his interactions with the group that appears to show West defending the group against a characterization that it’s “criminal.”

But as the FBI noted in a June press release announcing a federal indictment of American Outlaw leadership, the national group is suspected of being a “a highly organized criminal enterprise with a defined, multi-level chain of command.”

West’s dealing with the Florida branch of the group, according to Meyers, includes inviting them to a “campaign bike ride,” using them to “guard” him “in an interview,” and speaking before a “Constitutional rights rally” organized by “groups who bragged they were affiliated with the Outlaws.”
