Why don't they start to learn what it REALLY means to be a cop? |

Real cops PROTECT our rights!!
Where's the honor in what these guys are doing to peaceful protestors?
Do they not know the First Amendment?!?!?!
How dare they degrade the service of the countless cops across the country who DO protect us and our rights!

4. The class privilege on this site is stunning sometimes. |

If the cops ever gave a shit about your rights you must have grown up in a different neighborhood.

....cuz where I live, most of the cops do their jobs according to the law. I say "most" because there are always exceptions when you're dealing with humans. When the orders come down, the police have to do what they have to do. We should direct our anger not at cops but at the ones who give them orders. When it comes to outrage over police abuse, I'll be first in line to condemn it. We have rights, but cops have to follow orders or risk losing their jobs. That doesn't mean they have to go "gestapo" on citizens. Those cops are usually the ones who took the job because they want the power they did not have as citizens, or they are driven by peers in their dept. Cops are human, too.
Maybe rural country living has protected me from the abuses, but I have never had an incident of abuse from any police officer. Of course, I have never been arrested, either. Pretty amazing when you consider I have smoked pot for 40 years.
I think rogue cops are one of the most disgusting groups of people on the planet, and I know there are depts where abuse is commonplace and offending officers are given a slap on the wrist when they should be jailed. But you can't throw them all in one barrel.
So, yeah, I grew up in a different neighborhood. I guess that's why I like it.

I notice that this kind of reflexive and unthinking respect for authority, especially uniformed authority, is very much a common American characteristic: the police are there to protect our rights, and the military are defending our freedoms. Oh-ho-ho. Pull the other one, mate, it's got bells on.
