What Did Tom Corbett Know About Sandusky and When Did He Know It?

The Pennsylvania Governor has known about Jerry Sandusky and his pedophilia since "at least" 2009, when he was Attorney General.

As Attorney General, Corbett was the top law enforcement individual in the state. Why didn't he make sure that these children were protected IMMEDIATELY in 2009? Was it because he was too busy running for governor...or was it because he, too, was part of the coverup?

He has been Governor since January 2011, and was automatically placed on the Penn State Board of Trustees. Why did it take until November for Jerry Sandusky to be arrested?

Sandusky is out on bail...the $100,000 unsecured bail was set by Judge Leslie Dutchcot, a volunteer for Mr. Sandusky's Second Mile Foundation!

Governor Corbett was interviewed by Christiane Amanpour on "This Week" this past Sunday. An excellent question was asked by Amanpour:

"AMANPOUR: Well, let me -- let me ask you, because this is obviously massively serious. And I understand your ethical and legal obligations. However, don't you think that the mere risk that somebody who you've been investigating for more than two years, the mere risk that he could have continued to abuse during this investigation, demanded a call to the police? Should that not have been, at the very least, something that the coach, that the president should have done??"

"CORBETT: We would have expected law enforcement to have been involved much sooner than it got involved. And as you know from newspaper reports, our office, as the attorney general became involved, not in a case related to the university, but in a case from a next-door county, Clinton County, and a school there, where Mr. Sandusky was helping out as a coach."

At the end of the interview Amanpour asked Corbett:

"AMANPOUR: What do you think? Do you think adults should take responsibility for so brazenly failing children?"

Corbett's answer: "Well, in my role as attorney general, my role as a U.S. attorney, and now as governor, I believe adults should always stand up for children."

Well Governor Corbett, that did not happen. Who looks like the "knucklehead" now?

7. Corbett Had Reponsibility for Investigating Him Since March 2009

In 2008, a mother contacted police in Clinton County about Sandusky. They determined the crimes occurred in Centre County and passed them to the Centre DA. The Centre DA said he had a conflict of interest and passed responsbility for the investigation and the charges onto ATTORNEY GENERAL TOM CORBETT IN MARCH 2009.

One investigator was assigned. It took them 2 years to search Sandusky's house. It took them 18 months to find out about the previous allegations against Sandusky - in Penn State's file cabinets. It was not until after a new female Attorney General and a new State Police Commissioner took office in Jan. 2011 that the investigation moved forward with a full set of resources.

I'm not saying that Corbett should have completed his investigation in 2009. However, it appears there was enough credible evidence to charge Sandusky with at least one felony charge in 2009. Corbett was too busy with political fundraisers.

If you want to open up an entirely new angle, take a look at Corbett's office's roles during a long-running multiple child molestation case on the Milton Hershey School campus in Hershey PA. That guy was finally caught years later by one sharp detective from a neighboring police department.

I need to correct my above post. The Milton Hershey School molestation scandal was bad, but I don't believe I should blame it on Corbett's office. The main culprits for allowing the molester to continue to molest children for a decade after receiving a credible accuation were certain Milton Hershey School staff-persons and the Derry Township Police.

"Trust me, if we would have had something we could do right away, would have done it," Corbett said of the investigation in an interview Tuesday with Pittsburgh radio station KDKA.

Corbett, who was attorney general when the investigation began, said, "We wanted to build a case that would be good when it got to the courtroom and wouldn’t fail."
