Wash., Tulalip Indian Reservation mystery leaking ammonia tank

http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index2.php

A large tank leaking ammonia has been found on a beach on the Tulalip Indian Reservation, and no one knows where it came from. Ammonia is a corrosive gas that's toxic if inhaled, according to the state Department of Ecology. The ammonia odor is currently detectable within about 100 feet of the tank. The tank is not located near homes and no evacuations have been ordered. Still, the beach been cordoned off by officials from the ecology department, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Coast Guard and the Tulalip Fire Department. A nearby walking trail has been closed to the public until further notice. The exact location of the tank has not been disclosed. Anyone coming across the tank and the response teams is asked to respect the caution tape around the site and stay a safe distance away. Authorities estimate the tank could hold 470 gallons or 2,000 pounds. It's unknown how much ammonia is in the tank but it does not appear to be full, according to the ecology
department. Because of the toxic nature of ammonia and the challenges of removing the tank, officials have decided to leave the tank in place to vent over the next two or three days. The origin of the tank is unknown, but ecology department officials believe it has been in the water for several weeks and slowly releasing ammonia.
