2. I'm not buying the accusation that federal agencies were involved, I haven't seen any proof at all.
Just a couple articles by nobodies who don't have a valid source, who just say "one justice department source said" stuff.

I do believe that some city officials would have contacted federal authorities for guidance.

I do not yet believe that there has been any top-down direction.

So, much as I usually like Moore, he's not a primary source.

Over the past ten days, more than a dozen cities have moved to evict "Occupy" protesters from city parks and other public spaces. As was the case in last night's move in New York City, each of the police actions shares a number of characteristics. And according to one Justice official, each of those actions was coordinated with help from Homeland Security, the FBI and other federal police agencies.

The official, who spoke on background to me late Monday evening, said that while local police agencies had received tactical and planning advice from national agencies, the ultimate decision on how each jurisdiction handles the Occupy protests ultimately rests with local law enforcement.

9. Yeah, Quan said she'd been on a conference call with the other Mayors.
I think this was something they hatched up together.

Don't think the Feds were involved. Yet.

12. Okay, I'm back. I still read it as being it was done locally
with "advice" from diff Fed agencies (and what telling advice it is!!) but not that it was an action instigated/implemented by the Feds. But maybe that's not what you're implying -- is it??

16. I thought the question is whether there was federal involvement?
This seems to put that particular question to rest.

25. Oh, I interpreted it as people thinking the Feds were behind
it all. No, I agree there's involvement and it's interesting (and disgusting) to see some of their "tactics".

15. I think any big city govt would be negligent NOT to consult federal input on such a big thing...
...don't you?

And that's the accusation being made here, that there was communication.

And in the end the feds left it to local governments, no?

:hi:

17. You should have been watching Livestream
People there were saying that Homeland Security people were moving in. Local cops just don't have that kind of authority to get that particular agency involved.

20. How would participants know DHS from agents provocateur from freepers in RayBans?
I don't doubt that many saw what they thought might be Homeland Security, but does that make it so?

More proof is needed since many forces including right wing interests would like to see OWS turn against Obama - see Keith's interview with him in Political Videos

13. He's already lost his chance to "get out in front" of anything here.
His lack of response to this or the many other populist movements of late is typical of his detached attitude and will not change. Frankly, even if he did speak out at this point, it would be meaningless because of how long he's already waited.

19. it makes you wonder, though...
if that's really true that Homeland Security was involved, maybe there was a reason for it we don't know? I mean, really, when you've got a huge national interconnected movement with camps in every city and people throwing around the word 'revolution' and talking about blocking off bridges and subways and shutting down Wall St., why shouldn't Homeland Security take an interest? Even if the intention is peaceful, things could easily get out of hand, or there could be violent factions we don't know about that they are keeping tabs on.... as they should, frankly, cause that would be their main reason for existing.

24. Well I Gotta Say... That's News To Me... I Thought Homeland Security Was...
to protect us from threats from outside the country, not the citizenry.

But then... I'm old-school like that.

So... either #OWS is a terrorist plot to destroy America, or...

Because of The Patriot Act and HS... America has already been destroyed.
