After 16 hours on air at Wall Street protests, a Ustream star is born
By Bob Sullivan
The Revolution will be Ustreamed.

"When police ran Occupy Wall Street protestors out of Zuccotti Park in the middle of the night on Tuesday, there was really only one way to watch it live: On Tim Pool's "TheOther99" video stream. Pool, armed only with a cellphone and donated backup batteries, filmed the event through the night. He hosted the coverage news anchor style, the way Brian Williams would, talking almost continuously, stopping occasionally to conduct interviews."

"It might have looked a bit like grainy home video, but Pool had a sizable international audience. His Ustream.TV "channel" had, at various times, more than 20,000 simultaneous viewers, an audience some cable channels might envy. The audience exploded when word went out across Twitter that Pool’s stream was the best way to watch the protests online."

Another article about Tim Pool at Time:

"With a cell phone and Ustream channel, protester turned independent journalist Tim Pool is your window into Occupy Wall Street."

Hope it's ok to post this, So many of us wanted to thank Tim for what he did the other night, he was just invaluable, and it was really appreciated. So...thanks Tim!

6. Quiet tonight. Berkeley may be facing some trouble. They've reset up camp
and have received a verbal warning.

San Francisco might be in some trouble right now. Twitter report of a police raid. I am waiting for confirmation.

3. He was fantastic and especially since the OWS media
was destroyed by the police, his coverage was invaluable. He was more professional than most of the talking heads on Cable, who are now boasting about their 'coverage'. Made me laugh to hear Goldman Sachs Girl, Erin Burnett try to make the claim that they have 'on this story'. Lame, uninteresting coverage and biased of course.

But Tim was professional and factual. I hope he gets some rest. I did not know he was just using his cell phone, imo, it was better than the livestream at Global Revolution, which I love, but which often cuts out and is sometimes hard to hear.

5. sabrina1 He is in incredible!
He's an absolute natural at it, he kept his cool and kept the livestream going despite the fact his home (that's how he puts it) was destroyed.

Very professional, very factual, very fair. He's great at interviewing. We all started to worry about him too, because not only hadn't he slept, but he hadn't eaten either.

A lot of stations started using Tim's stream, including Al Jazeera....so much for Erin Burnett! People were telling Tim..."You're on all these channels!" And he couldn't believe it!

Did you see the stream of the General Assembly? I've never seen such determination in my life, no one is giving up. The atmosphere at the park was awesome, might sound silly but so much love just filled that place. Suppose to be a march on Thursday.

I need to get some sleep..thanks for responding, I just wanted to thank Tim, he really deserves it!

4. Tim's high point was when the vandals tried to shut him down
He inadvertently stumbled upon masked vandals who were letting the air out of the tires of NYPD vehicles. The vandals confronted--and even assaulted--Tim, demanding that he stop livestreaming. He refused, Saying they'd have to break his camera first.

The last I saw of the livestream, Tim had been on for 18 hours straight--with only a few bananas to sustain him.

And he was never supposed to be a correspondent--he was the tech guy who set up the livestream.

If Tim has become a "superhero," I don't know about that. But he certainly deserves recognition for the good work he has done.

7. Yes!
that fact they were masked, was definitely creepy, no one knew what their motives really were, who they really were, and they got really threatening but that didn't stop Tim. He stood up to them.

Yup the "tech guy" LOL! How ironic.

He might be a "superhero" to us, given the awful circumstances of that night. Wasn't so easy keeping your cool with all of that going on, but he did and he did it well. He definitely deserves the recognition.

15. When I read in pinboy3niner's post that the masked men "demanded he stop livestreaming",
the police was my first guess as to who they were.

9. I was watching him that night too and I thought
man - he should be a reporter for real - guy was awesome - not just at the one incident - but the whole night his commentary was great and he kept it focused. Very impressive indeed.

13. I don't think he realized just how professional his coverage was of the event.
I was watching him when the other live stream crew ended up going down.. I believe they may have been jamming wifi which is what the live stream uses, besides batteries for a lap top. The upstream channel was literally the bottom of the barrel at the media area. He and the others on that channel have funded it with their own money. He really did provide an amazing coverage.. and his phone allowed him at times to take questions or swing his camera towards something someone had noticed on the feed. It was amazing coverage. He did not engage as a person upset and looking at his home being destroyed. He took a step back and was a "reporter" and I'd say did better than Brian Williams... He reminded me more of Richard Engel covering a far off place like Egypt, except he was the one man crew.. He had the camera and the reporting all in one. It may prove as a new model for reporting in the future. It was really amazing footage and coverage of what was happening; especially since the other live streams were down.

16. watched both oakfosho and tims channel on consecutive nights
when i usually am in dreamland..riveting and so right on..both of them..i guess the ustream packs are heavy as they both mentioned the weight..but we wouldn't have been able to be right there without these two guys..and they both are so courteous to others and appreciative of just a small gesture. I love them. The last I saw of Tims ustream he had been streaming non stop for 19 hours. Damned amazing. Thanks to both of these wonderful men...and all the others
