.

(AP) SEATTLE - A downtown march and rally in support of the Occupy Wall Street movement turned briefly chaotic as police scattered a crowd of rowdy protesters — including a pregnant 19-year-old and an 84-year-old activist — with blasts of pepper spray.

Protest organizers denounced the use of force, saying that police indiscriminately sprayed the chemical irritant at peaceful protesters.

The Occupy Seattle movement released a written statement late Tuesday expressing support for "a 4-foot 10-inch, 84-year-old woman, a priest and a pregnant woman who as of this writing is still in the hospital."

Thank goodness the encampment had a medical staff to help take care of them. And that's the first time I've seen pepper size cans the size of fire extinguishers! How can they be doing this to our own citizens?

how much longer are they going to take it peacefully? If I had been there
and they sprayed a pregnant lady and an 84 year old, I'd be in jail or the hospital after attacking the cops and giving them something to attack

10. comment from the original story on CBS
by 1notrub11 November 16, 2011 9:13 AM EST
This is sensationalism at its finest.

These two, and particularly the pregnant woman, took unnecessary risks on their own behalf to express their beliefs.
There are no guarantees crossing the street each day either, just much less personally accepted risk, since they can control the situation better.
In fact I would argue that the pregnant woman created a significant risk to her child, on many fronts. How unfit is that?

22. So basically what that comment is saying is that we have
no right to assume that the cops whose salaries we pay are there to protect us, that they are, in fact a threat to the public. So much so that women and children need to avoid them the way they would avoid a rapist or murderer. Got that!

I bet she would be viewed differently if the was the 2nd Amendment that was at stake, if the cop had taken her gun eg.

24. It's all her fault!!!
She should not have left her bed and put her shoes on, what with being pregnant and all...
And, heaven forbid the police actually protect her.

Sometimes I think people drink different water than us... nt

3. Public servant should be so proud of himself!
Assaulting an elderly person is a crime.
The perpetrator should be so proud of his work in protecting and serving the people of Seattle.
What a POS!

11. how could they do this?
Indiscriminately spraying U.S. who are NOT a threat to them. Seems like fear tactics to keep the movement from growing even bigger.

6. Nazi soldiers shot Jews who were "refusing lawful orders"
I try to restrain myself from Nazi comparisons, but the behavior of the police reminds me of the Nuremburg trials and the Milgram experiments.

8. I have a question
Edited on Wed Nov-16-11 09:49 AM by atreides1
What is the difference between these police officers, from Oakland to New York, and German police in November 1938?

There is no difference, both were following orders!!!

With that in mind, as long as the laws are in place, what happened in 1938 in Germany and Austria can happen here!

9. Yep
And images such as these are why the media has been kept out of the raids.

When will these policemen/women realize that they are the servants of terror against its own? nt

26. Yes, they had a choice in their actions.
I also understand that they would be reprimanded for not following orders, possibly losing their jobs. But at the end of the day you do have a choice in your actions and it becomes a matter of ethics.
