SCOTUS to rule on Affordable Care Act next summer..... |
|
I'm of the opinion that the ACA is better than what existed before but am concerned about the "individual mandate" issue.
Being forced to purchase a sub-standard product from a corporation is not the way I would have done things. A single payer system, something along the lines of how France does it, would have been the best route.
I think the SCOTUS wll rule in favor of the ACA because at the end of the day the ACA is a windfall for the insurance industry and everyone knows right-wingers love it when corporations get locked in profits via government mandates.

The systems of Canada, Germany, Switzerland or most any of the other OECD countries could also have sufficed.

3. Supreme Court finds a way to uphold the mandate and strip the expanded Medicaid provisions |
|
In addition, they might strip a few other provisions if they benefit the people over the corporations' bank accounts.
Their distorted, twisted court ruling will not be paid any attention to by the overwhelming majority of Americans so they will do whatever the insurance companies and the health care companies and Wall Street want them to do.
We are fascist.

They'll rule some such nonsense about whether states have standing to sue or not and kick it back to lower courts. Cowards.

6. The chance that private insurance is the last or only product we are forced to buy? Nil. |
|
The corporate mandate will be the start of a whole new branch of government, should it stand.

9. It's a dangerous precedent |
|
I can imagine future laws based on this -- an education bill that requires everyone to own a Kindle and buy five e-books per year (from the approved list) or pay a $75 tax. It's kind of scary to imagine what the other side could do with this power.

8. Shh - no discussion of a single payer HC system for all will be allowed... |
|
under Clinton and Obama.
But feel free to blame the Republicans for taking it off the table, everyone knows they were in the WH when HC was a major issue.
:(
