11. I can assure you he was on the streets for years before he got the desk job.
I'm from Philly and one of my best friends, a female, was a cop for over twenty years.

Philadelphia is a tough town and it's not at ALL easy being a cop there, though this

does NOT excuse police abuse in the slightest...I think it's great that he came on the show today.

12. That's all well and good
and it's great he stood up BUT the real heroes are the people who started the movement, who have put their lives on hold, some of them for months. The ones who show up day in and day out. Every kid who has been pepper sprayed, beaten, arrested and had their possessions destroyed. THOSE are the heroes.

And choosing to get arrested. This man has a lot to lose, and he has chosen to stand with the 99%. He's a patriot like every other man and woman in the street that is tired of the corruption and the unholy union of Wall Street and DC.

EDIT: Step up to the plate if you have evidence that is different.

21. you know, a guy in tunisia setting himself on fire is the first one.
every person who steps out of their comfort zone and gets in the line of fire and abuse is a HERO. The OWS movement would be the first to tell you that. They would be the first to decry hierarchy of effort. The process is the objective, not listing hierarchies. Ray is part of the process. He is a hero. He is standing there ready and willing to be beaten, pepper sprayed and all the rest too. He rates just as much as the smallest child and the first OWS'er.

54. Oh, for fuck's sake.
Maybe we could argue over the color of grass or the sky.

My point was to take nothing from him but(given the propensity of D.U. to have a new "hero" almost every day) to remind us all that the heroes aren't just the flash in the pan people who come and go but the ones who have stayed for weeks on end. Like Shamar Thomas who has pretty much disappeared.

If that's offensive, well, too bad. I just don't care.

Why do I suspect that if active duty cops spoke up about this, the War on Some Drugs, etc, they just might find themselves without backup in a dangerous situation?

If you have evidence that they are on the "inside", then let's see it. Otherwise, they are citizens that have also had enough.

Speak up if you have evidence, I'll be the first to help you. Unless you don't, and I'll be the first to renounce.

28. We need an Eisenhower.
We need a JFK. We need someone that stands the hell up and says "No More". Your adventures overseas have been disasters that cost too much money, giving corporations tax breaks has lead to them being irresponsible children, and holding no one accountable for the financial meltdown has lead to them being the architects of a new one.

Stop it before we have to bail anyone else out, because I assure you, we won't be bailing out another meltdown. You will HAVE your meltdown first before they get million dollar bonuses after destroying the economy again.

45. I stand corrected, It was MacAurthur who gave the orders.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonus_Army

During the military operation, Major Dwight D. Eisenhower, later President of the United States, served as one of MacArthur's junior aides.<15> Believing it wrong for the Army's highest-ranking officer to lead an action against fellow American war veterans, he strongly advised MacArthur against taking any public role: "I told that dumb son-of-a-bitch not to go down there," he said later. "I told him it was no place for the Chief of Staff."<16> Despite his misgivings, Eisenhower later wrote the Army's official incident report which endorsed MacArthur's conduct.[1

57. We all have the right to protest the way things are going, and Mr Lewis is one of us!
So, I can understand why he doesn't think letting the 1% have even more control of the economy and the politicians is the thing to do in America.
I can understand his frustration with the banking system and the way healthcare is administered to the elderly in this country.

Mr Lewis is an American!!

How many of us would lend a cop a hand, if he were in need?
I have never checked to see what someone did for a living before I offered to help someone out.
